06 wrx suggestions...

so i bought a 2006 subaru wrx limited a few weeks ago, it literally just had a brand new clutch and flywheel put into it... but any way, so i want to start working on it. its already got a borla exhaust on it, so any one have any suggestions on some good upgrades, or where to start, or even a good website to check out things for my car?

What are your goals? i.e. fun street car? weekend autox car? Weekend drags? etc...
Might I suggest asking yourself those questions before randomly slapping on parts. You'll be happier and save money in the end.

My advice is to start with engine management. No matter what that lays the groundwork for any future power mods. After that you will get your biggest bang for the buck by adding an aftermarket downpipe to your catback.

Check out this site: www.wrxmodders.com
I am a mod over there and everyone is very helpful!

Upgrade the turbo, put some injectors in there and reflash it. Basic, but it works and you will enjoy the car much much more.

well this is going to be my daily driven car so i kinda want to bump up the power a bit more to make it a bit faster, but not too rediculous. i was driving a fully built turbo integra that had an insane amount hp as my DD for awhile
and it just had too much power to be driven daily...

Bingo. That will be more than enough power.. at least for a couple weeks. Congrats on buying an easily modified car for a daily driver, you'll be broke for years to come.

i think downpipe catbat drop in filter and tune should keep you happy plus id tweak your suspension al lil bit. but first get yous to the car they drive diff from every other car i owned. my 06 wagon is a dd with 330+ at the wheels and it still gets good milage but seat time is your best mod

little larger turbo
BOV
injectors
ecu/tune
up pipe
downpipe
electronic boost controller

also any suggestions on brands for each these then to use that would be best would be greatly appreciated...

I don't have a lot of time to make suggestions right now, but I will add more later.

Keep the stock BPV unless it leaks boost. Your car will run better. If you need a different one get one that recirculates. (APS/Go Fast Bits/Forge)

There is no real reason to upgrade your Uppipe because it doesn't have a cat.

If you plan to keep the stock ECU and just use a reflash for tuning just get an upgraded electronic boost control solenoid (GM/Perrin/Prodrive). For a mild build there is no reason to upgrade to a really expensive boost controller. The logic in the 32bit ECU's is very good for controlling the boost.

Just trying to save you some money and headaches.

My advice is to get a DP/TBE and some sort of stage 2 map or tune and see what you think of the car. I have a friend who has an 06 with those exact mods and the car pulls pretty hard. Unless you are going to be doing more than daily driving with it that should be more than enough power to keep you happy. He put down like 242WHP and 300WTQ on Slowboy's dyno with his protune.

I agree with the above... and Boosted, things get complicated pretty quickly when you swap the turbo. If you tune it for any kind of power, you'll more than likely need to upgrade to a walbro fuel pump, and possibly the injectors, depending on how much boost / power you tune it for. The 06 injectors are basically equivalent to the STi's...which can power a conservative tune. If you want to keep your cost and headaches to a minimum... start with typical 'stage 2' modifications.... that being exhaust / tune. See how it feels. Changing too many things on any car at once, is usually more downtime and bug finding.

well with that said, how much boost could be pushed outa this turbo? i would like to maybe just bump it up a few more, nothing too crazy with it. and i love the car so far, its definetely by far the favorite outa all the cars ive owned so far, except its probably about even with my mustang i had about 3 yrs ago... oh and before i forget, this is what i read someplace else....

The 06-07 WRX has boost spike or creep issues in all cases because the 2.5L engine pushes so much air. Even with the internal wastegate fully open, not enough air can exit to stop spinning the turbo, resulting in boost spiking. This problem cannot be fixed with wastegate porting alone; we suggest wastegate porting and engine management to remedy the situation. Due to this, 06+ WRX owners may want to consider waiting to get an aftermarket downpipe or turboback until after they have upgraded their turbo or they may want to consider getting a cat-back exhaust only.

thats part of the reason i was looking at getting a slightly larger turbo, injectors/pump, and downpipe... and then tuned.

You can push 18-20LBS. Any more than that you are chancing breaking the impeller shaft.
