You guys ever burn yourself out on working on cars?

Like the title states, you ever get just completely burnt out working on cars? This is more for the guys that DON'T work on cars for a living, because I'm sure anyone who does probably does get a little burnt out. But for those of us (the larger majority of us I'd assume) who work on your car(s), family members cars, friends cars, etc, you ever just get completely sick of it? I WANT to work on my car, but I just dont feel like it. I think the 2 main reasons for me, are that A) I dont have a garage to work in, its all driveway work and its annoying, and B) I can't ever start a project and not finish it the same day. I always have to finish what I start because of 2 reasons, one is that I can't just leave stuff laying in the driveway, and also because my car is my only mode of transportation, my daily driver, so I can't not have it. Do you get burnt out, and if so, why? How do you solve it?!

well....im getting very sick of the civic. I just found MORE **** wrong with the radiator support. A little front end damage turned into a **** storm that makes me wanna sell it for a buck. No i will not actually do that, btw. lol Yea man, i know where your coming from.

edit--to get back into the mood, i typically just watch some videos or read magazines of car events, shows, autoX, whatever. typically makes me want to spend thousands of dollars on my car lol. when im not working on my car, im typically reading how-to's and whatnot.

See, I get really bored with cars very quickly, because I can't make it what I want fast enough lol. I've had this car longer then the past like 3 cars. But oh well. I'm still working on getting more turbo goodies. I WISH MY CAR WAS STOCK!

I got burned out working on my first Beetle. It was a lot of work without ever seeing much in return. I learned my lesson though I stick with small projects or motorcycles.

I burn my hand and arm changing my oil. It's a given every time because my oil filter is right under the header.

^ That ain't ****, I've gotten instant 2nd degree burns on my hands from bumping my turbo manifold. Not fun.

I don't really get burnt out working on most cars. Sometimes I need to take a step back, or work on something different for a little while so that I can focus on what I'm doing. I did this with the CRX, the car had so many problems I had to take a step back and figure out what I wanted to do with it. Ended up fixing what needed to be fixed and now it's a great little gokart.

It just depends on the complexity of the job. If its something simple I do it. If its something that will take a few hours I don't want to do it but I will do it because I have to. Now when I have to repeat a job over and over and over again I get frustrated and replace everything that is there so it won't **** up again. If a job is hard, then I will just leave it be for a while until I get fed up and then just do it.

I've had an oil leak on BMW for a long time. I replaced the oil filter housing gasket. Then, after a days of work, the thing was pissing a quart of oil every 5 minutes. I bumped two pressure relief caps and they didn't seat right. I "fixed" that the same day and all is well. NO! Next day they are leaking. Month later they are still leaking. Then one fine cold evening, I start the car and they finally give out. So I had to pull the filter housing out again and figure it out. I searched for a long ass time trying to find a fix, but no one had one. Ended up finding an o-ring in there so found a matching one and so far, 3 weeks later, no leaks!

Really? Old stock cars aren't much better than a turbo car. Hoses, o-rings, gaskets, and all other bull**** decide to crack and leak.

Ugh I WISH I could work on my car. I'm burnt out editing video and photo and I long to wrench on the wreck.

I remember when everything was out of the CRX engine bay and that whole long process of shaving it and putting it back together. So fun much.

Yea but at least with that stuff its just a simple replacement. (At least on my car lol, theres not too many really hard jobs) Its just frustrating that my car is so.....used. Just since its been turbo'd and what not its frustrating all the little issues that come because of that.

I like working on other people's car's alot, especially when I actually know what I'm doing, lol. But I find working on my own heap stressful unless it's a two-minute job. I have such a crazy attention to detail, but I get so sloppy sometimes, that I just want to punch my own self in the face. I hate finding lame previous-owner-mods that seem like one small, insignifcant thing, that just happens to be a whole bunch of "small" things tied together, so that when you go to correct one, you **** up the rest, and before you know it, I'm on a mission to solder every-frickin-thing.

yea idk. I mean I know if I just stick it out, when I do finally get it done, it will be soooo worth it. Its just the time from now till then lol. I gotta take the car up to import intelligence and have them replace one of my wiring harnesses in the driver side wheel well because my tire decided to eat a chunk of it haha. So now my headlights dont go down, and my wipers come on by themselves sometimes. o_O And just gathering all the parts to go turbo is so tedious and taking so long. Not having lots of money sucks LOL

Chris, idk exactly where you live by i'm like 15 minutes from west chester, 10 minutes from downingtown, technically I'm in coatesville but not like...yo yo yo straight out the bricks of c ville whats good. LMFAO I need to relocate my harness so I don't tear through it again. It just sucks because I want to do the best option which is relocating it to the engine bay but that is a loooot of work.
