Ray@Turbotek puts the ixizconcept A/O separator to the test
preventing oil from getting ingested by your turbo and into your intake,is very important as not doing so will greatly reduce the efficiency of your engine reduce octane and cause engine knock which will cause the ecu to retard timing. There are 2 ways to achieve this, the 1st way is to install a catch can system which simply catches the blowby oil in a can which causes oil consumption and when filled can created an oily mess. Option 2 is to get an air oil separator this system basically separates the oil from the air and returns the oil back into the block, causing less oil consumption and a better system than a catch can in general. A/O Separator options Until now Crawford was the only company to produce an a/o separator system that works how its supposed to. While it is an awesome unit and performs well, the pricing seems a little high. Ray gets his hands on one!!!! & why For the longest time i have been noticing a huge increase in oil consumption, the problem did not really start until i was running higher boost levels, my intercooler will get some oil in it etc. Now with the built motor i even see more of this, in fact sometimes under boost you can even see smoke coming out of the exhaust. I began to do my research on a/o separators and finally had a conference call with the owner of ixizconcept and a test unit was sent out to me. I was already convinced that the unit would work !!!!! ![]() When the unit 1st got delivered i was trying to figure out a way to eliminate my ecu and plug this in while at the same time my son was busy trying to pull the unit off my hands to plug it into the back of the TV. The unit looks like some fancy electronic device but due to its design it fits just about any where. within 20 minutes i had the unit installed on the car and out for a test drive. At this time the car feels pretty normal however when in boost there was absolutely no smoke , of course i smiled. Yesterday i was on the road all day , at this point the car is driving a lot smoother and under boost felt crispier, learning view of the ecu later revealed that the feedback knock correction i was randomly getting before is no longer there. Last night i pulled the intercooler piping off to find them completely dry unlike before, there was not a trace of oil in my intercooler piping or throttle body area like before. HERE ARE SOME TESTING VIDEOS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikZA8tmf6Nw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv40NsrV3Ko The Verdict IT WORKS !!!!! THIS THING KICKS BUTT!!!!!!!! SLEEK DESIGN ALLOWS FOR EASY FITMENT COMES WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO INSTALL LINK TO A GROUP BUY http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ad.php?t=68812

so basically the air/oil seperator helps you from going through so much oil? They had a write up on nasioc on the crawford one, everyone seems to like it although the price is high like you said.

can you somehow do this for a VW? I was thinking of doing a catch can anyways instead of fixing (replacing oem) pcv stuff, which is broken on mine lol..

sooo.. this does everything that a catch can does, but puts the oil back? meh, in less you're getting tons of blow by from the crank case (in SRT terms, ****ty PCV valve - A lot of SRT guys also run a check valve from the throttle body to the PCV, which also helps a lot) I don't see how $175 over a catch can is worth it.

Even a perfectly installed catch can will not get all the oil out of the incoming air. If you let the blow-by re enter the intake path you will have an internally soaked intercooler, that oil film will not allow the air passing threw the intercooler to be cooled off correctly even with the biggest of front mounts. So issue #1 you will have hotter than usual air going into the engine. Second blow by decreases octane rating causing knock issues that will decrease power and make the ecu start using fine learning values "Subaru Vehicles" which will make you lose power in certain points in the rpm range. Frankly I don't want that crap going into my engine since it doesn't do any good. Btw Venting to atmosphere is not good since you lose the massive scavenging effect caused by the intake system and you will fail to remove blow-by at an effective rate. I had a cusco can installed that did trap from 8-9 onz of oil every 6,000 miles but the intake track and intercooler was still soaking wet in oil

these units come with multiple ports to separate oil from the crank vent and the heads and utilize internal baffles. this is a completely closed loop operating system, read the post by blue demond

If you are running a check valve to prevent the PCV system "Positive crank case ventilation" to dump the blow by or release any pressure at all into the TB then you are over pressurizing the crankcase and will lead to shorter piston rings duration and may give you problems with other seals. You will be creating a Positive crank case pressure system and the wont be pretty.

I have never seen a properly working catch can setup. This is interesting.
