DSM's don't have balancing shafts? I guess that's a Saab thing. That's it, I want to build a motor, where's a scrap yard that has a saab engine.

Actually, Mitsu has the patent on balance shafts. And the 4g63 uses them but most people leave them out. Good for something like 15hp on a mildly modded DSM.

If you notice the lighting in the back as well as clothing changes it actually takes a lot longer to build the motor. I think it was more that they were able to compress it to close to 10min movie. Otherwise, do not even try to build a motor the way these guys did it cause they leave some very important details out.

Btw, it takes at least 30 min just to check the hyraulic tensioner on the timing belt install, lol.

What about losing oil pressure cause the shafts aren't there? Hmmm, I wonder if I can take the balancing shafts out of my engine.

The rear shaft on mitsu motors is fed oil through the shaft itself. Most people replace the shaft with one that has no oil feed. Others cut the shaft and then cover the oil passage with a bolt. The front shaft is oiled through the block so what most people do is take the bearings out and spin them. Since the bearings only have one oil passage hole installing the bearings so that the hole is not lined up with the motor's oiling passage blocks oil loss through there.

actually... Merriam Webster Defines a Motor as:

Quote:
Main Entry: 1mo·tor
Pronunciation: 'mO-t&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from movEre to move
1 : one that imparts motion; specifically : PRIME MOVER
2 : any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: as a : a small compact engine b : INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE; especially : a gasoline engine c : a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy

so they are right to say Motor.

some mechanically inclined people like to call an electric motor a "motor" and a combustion engine a "engine" i believe this is where it comes from, but the terms are synonomous. (i had this argument with a good friend of mine back in HS)
