Photo of the Month Contest?

So I am on a few photography forums (and car related) that have Photo of the Month Contests. These are a lot of fun and all involved really enjoy them. I think we should implement that here as well since we have enough real photogs as well as other decent people with cameras.

On my one forum the moderators pick 5 photos, and everyone votes from there. But they get 5+ pages of submissions. I think here, we could do a new thread for Submissions (NO critique, just photos!). Then lock that thread and do a new thread for Voting. I think it'd work great.

I like the rule on my one forum that it has to be a photo taken DURING the contest period. This makes it a true "Photo of the Month" contest and not a "Best Photo" contest. And we could have a different topic picked for each month.

Any thoughts?

yeah, also wasn't there another thread where we would get like a head to head competition as well? I might be making that up.

At one point there was, but you know how people get.. lazy. So I don't see that working out too well.

People stopped submitting images to the contest. If enough people are interested we can try to bring it back.

I have the thread started.. we'll see what the response is like. I made it easy.. "Wet" is the topic and if you look outside.. that's what you get lol.
If there aren't many people who enter, I can drop it down to ANY time period, but I like to make people actually think about the contest and then go out to shoot FOR the contest. It makes it challenging and fun.

i think wet would work better for novemember. we always did the voting after the month was over, or the last week of the month. not a full month in advance

since we cannot post in that thread... are there any rules as far as putting borders/watermarks on the image?

Since they are now being posted directly in the thread, everyone will see who posted each image, so I would say that you can border/watermark your images if you really want to.

Is there a bot service that we have here that can remove the post makers? My one Nikon forum offers this.

Not currently setup. The way it used to work was that they were submitted by email to VWCoraddoKid and he would then host/post them in the voting thread.

well i was thinking, what if we submitted our final images to you through an email (certain size requirements, has to be hosted, whatever) and then when the poll is ready you can make a new poll with all of the pictures anonymously posted up
