I was wondering this the other night. If you crash your car while at the track, obviously if its not bad and you dont mind commiting insurance fraud you can say it happened elsewhere i guess. But if you total it or there is excessive damage to your car, does your insurance cover it knowing it was done at the track ?

no. at least i am not aware of any insurance that covers the vehicle while it is being used in competition. life insurance - yes. car insurance - no.

Both insurance and warranty could use any kind of competitive driving or other track event as grounds for voiding coverage

If you call them and tell them that it happened at a track, not only will they tell you it's not covered, but many will probably stop covering you all together.

Insurance only covers on road travel. A track is off road.

Or better yet some asshole can call you insurance company and report you for being on the track and depending on how strict your ins company is they will call you and drop you. True story happened to me.

If you crash at the track you are out of luck. Any driving besides normal driving is not covered by your insurance. Sometimes you will get lucky and be able to cheat the system but 99% of the time you will lose. And I also don't believe there is any insurance that would cover you crashing at the track.

You can get supplemental insurance for your car if you track it. I'm not sure if these companies do cross-checking and alert your regular insurance companies. There are some companies out there that will still cover you if you race as a hobby and not a sanctioned race for money, but I'm sure they would come up with a reason to not cover you anyway.

Unbelievable, what an asshole. As far as my cars and the insurance company go, the less they know, the better.

Hmmm.. so I race on the road, total my car, insurance company pays for it. I race in a safe environment at the track, total my car, I am screwed. The world continues making sense.

Hmmm actually if they found out or could prove you were racing on the road you may end up getting the shaft. Just like in some cases when you have a DUI and wreck the insurance won't pay for it. They are insuring you to drive normally and cover ACCIDENTS that happen. They are not covering you to be a moron, not that I don't go a tad over the speed limit myself lol. There is no moron insurance.

Some insurance companies are going online and viewing the results of auto-x and other types of racing. If your name and car are posted on there, they will most likely drop you.
