D50 worth it?

Friend of a friend is selling her Nikon d50 with everything except for a case.

D50 Body
18 - 55 lens

Shes asking 300$ obo. My friend says it looks like its in great condition (friend shoots with a d60.)

what would you guys pay for a camera that has been since replaced?

Also if there are any advantages/disadvantages to this body please let me know.

id say thats a pretty good price for the d50 and kit lens, recently ive seen them for about $350.

the d50 is a very solid entry dSLR with more than enough features if you dont know what youre doing. I shoot with one now and really like it, the only downfall is the noise in high iso, but for the price bracket you cant ask for much more. i recommend it

thank you anyone else with some insight for me?

found a review that included the iso grainyness. Did you find the pictures still usable or did you have to do a lot of editing.

its a great place to begin. It does get noisy at higher iso's but most of the time it has the built in image noise reduction that does its job! The only time i hated the camera was an indoor trackmeet shoot but i dont have any glass under 2.4f either.

I've been looking into getting a camera and the D50 was on the list it looks to be a solid piece...it is fairly old, the D40, D40x and I think the D60 are all its replacements (someone chime in if I am wrong) one of my friends has one and I was playing with it the other day and it seems to have a lot of nice features especially if you are just looking to get into DSLRs...I however felt like it was going to be a limiting factor in a year or so when I was thinking of upgrading...but for the price I imagine you could probably sell it for about the same when you decide to upgrade...I however have started to look at the D80...but then again that is priced in a whole different ballpark so I need to save up some more pennies

i still use my d50. as for high iso, i can use 800 most of the time, 1600 you will have to use neat image or something to clean up the image. but i dont have any complaints with mine.

I use a d50. No complaints at all. Great for my 1st dslr. 300 is a good deal in my opinion.

its not really that limiting. as long as you invest in solid glass the d50 is a pretty good camera. the only places that i have found it limiting was in the fps (frames per second) and the high iso, but both are things that you can easily deal with. Ive shot everything from landscapes in New Zealand to musicians to drift events to sports, so I have a lot of diverse experience with this body
