First photo with "my" d40x

For my first full-time teaching job, I got pushed into teaching photojournalism as well as English.

I took photography with film SLRs back in high school, and did like it, but I completely forget everything I learned from it. I picked up a "basics of digital photography" book last weekend and hopefully that will teach me enough to get these kids to take good pictures for the yearbook (only thing we do in the class in produce a 192 page full-color yearbook).

I'm kinda looking into buying my own d40x, but I might just keep borrowing the school units for now since money is tight since I recently moved and continue to furnish my apt.

We have one big zoom lens I want to play with as well as some 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. I'd like to get a handle on using all of these, but finding time to practice is difficult to say the least. Most days I'm at school 12 hrs a day, giving me no day light or time to do anything unless it's on the weekend.

This first pic I took outside my place, around dusk. I was having trouble getting it to autofocus on what I wanted it to focus on, but now I understand I can force it to autofocus on one point, and not choose the nearest subject... I was trying to frame the car between the trees, but I think I ended up focusing on the tree closest to the car instead.

Mainly just introducing myself to this photography forum and telling you where I'm coming from. Hello all.

you know what i hate? The way most people in this thread drive. [...] You're all F*cking retarded. I hope you all burn in hell. Seriously, mature a little and wise up [...] Unless you have a dying loved one in the back there is no need to sustain a speed of 85mph. You sound like a bunch of 16 year old kids in their mommy's volvo wagon. Congrats, you fail miserably.
