i didnt explain why i "couldnt wait any longer", so it was because i bought a HD camcorder like a month back and i couldnt get my videos off of the cameras hard drive, on to my computer. and when i finally called the manufacture and got some videos on my computer, they were all copped up, and the same way when i tried to burn them to a dvd. so i was planning on selling it, to help me upgrade to the D90 since i wanted to upgrade from my D40 and the D90 was the best option imo. but i never got around to selling it these past weeks, and this morning i woke up and decide to go get it for the football game i covered tonight...
so here are 2 or 3 shots form tonight, i think they could be better, but i just got it this morning and went straight to the game after charging the batteries. C&C please, also if anyone has shot a night time sport like this, what are the right settings, and a nice big lens that can get me great shots (i know they are expensive, so this is where selling that HD camcorder will help out for a small part) 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() **Front Row Bottom Left 4.

hey... shots look decent. sports at night can be really difficult, especially when you're talking about high school lighting which isnt nearly as good as college or pro lighting.. having a lens that has a max aperture of 2.8 will be helpful with this since it will allow you to maintain a higher shutter speed even in low light.
looks like on the action shots you may have done a little better with a slightly higher shutter speed to freeze the action without any blur. they look pretty clean otherwise though. the only other thing i'd suggest is to shoot/crop tighter. make the action in your face... as for a lens to look for if you plan to shoot a lot of sports either indoors or at night... i'd recommend looking for a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM or if you have a little more money the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF-S (not the AF-D). you can buy used to save some money on either of these...

^ what he said, although the Sigma may be the easier option due to the fact the 80-200 AF-S is so hard to find, even used.
And if your refering to the jailbait I think you are (blonde hair) then good for you! haha, hopefully that doesn't make me to much of a pedophile for saying that. |

First off, great shots Considering the light available at most HS footballs games, you did really well. For glass, I would look at either the 80-200 2.8 AF-S or the 70-200 2.8. Even though they may make fine lenses, the Sigma would be my last choice.

thanks for the comments and imput guys. i did some searching for the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF-S, i wasnt too sure about some that i found, but i also seached http://www.ashtonsd90.com/ashton.aspx from the d90 commercial with ashton k., and what do u think about the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-E ? it's expensive so it wouldnt be for a little while, but is at as good or better then the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF-S? which would be the better choice? thanks again for the help.
***also, im currently doing friday night football games, but soon will be doing indoor basketball/vollyball games, then back outdoors for day time track and field and other after school sports, so which lense is versatile for all these sporting situations? thanks again. |

-The Nikon 70-200 f2.8 IS is a great lens... i was just trying to keep things somewhat affordable. It has image stabilization as well which will help with low light situations. All the bells and whistles. Pro lens.
-The Nikon 80-200 AF-S (which is only available used and can be hard to find) has just as good image quality and focus speed, but it does not have Image Stabilization like the 70-200 does. Pro lens, last generation. -The Nikon 80-200 AF-D has good image quality but slower focusing. Pro lens (but a bit older). Some have been passed on to the Pro-Ams at this point. -The Sigma 70-200 has not quite as good image quality (but still good) and has focus speed which is almost as good as the AF-S but better than the AF-D. Pro-Am lens... a great value for the money and still a great lens. You're looking at the right gear though especially if you plan to continue shooting sports... you will use this lens almost exclusively and will be well worth the purchase, even if they are all a bit expensive. I also use mine for a lot of other work including some portraits, cars, and more.
