Our goverment would not have to see a birth certificate, They'll dig up whatever they need on anyone, especially a presidential canidate.

I have been meaning to research both canidates to see which I'll vote for but I have'nt had the time yet...I know I gotta get on the ball... But I do remember reading another article regarding his birthplace.

I could have swore, even if you are born out of the united states and your mom is a US citizen, the baby is a US Citizen as well no matter where she has the baby.

I may be a little off, but if I remember right, in order to be president you must be a US citizen for 14 years, no younger than 35 years of age and have prior political experience. I think it's 14 years. You don't have to be a US born citizen, though. Also, I believe it was his father who was born in Kenya, he was born in Hawaii. One more thing, if you are born in the US but your parents aren't US citizens, you're still born a citizen. However, if your parents are US citizens and you're born outside the country, I'm not 100% sure but I think you are considered a citizen of that country, but for some reason that doesn't sound correct to me. I didn't pay much attention in social studies.

You need to be born on US soil. There was a whole big thing with McCain before he was selected to be the republican candidate that he had been born on a US military base down at the panama canal and whether or not he met the criteria to be able to run for president.

Qualifications to be President:

-have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years.

The "natural born citizen" statement is what is usually questioned. The Constitution has no explicit definition as to what that means. Currently it would be defined as any person born on U.S. soil. Persons whose parent(s) are U.S. citizens but are born abroad, may not be "natural born" citizens based on current definitions. Several people have run for the office of President and not met the common definition of "natural born". However, none of them have ever won the election. It is the responsibility of Congress to intercede and declare whether or not a person is qualified to assume the office of President after the election. Private citizens are not allowed to appeal a candidates status.

Our current candidates:

McCain: Was born in the Panama Canal Zone which is not part of the U.S. However, a law passed in 1937 made anyone born in the Canal Zone after February 1904 to parent(s) that are U.S. citizens a citizen. So, McCain passes the test of natural citizen despite having been born outside the country.

- A side note on that is that U.S. foreign military bases and consulates are NOT considered U.S. territory for purposes of citizenship. The law works that if your parent(s) are citizens and you are born at a U.S. installation you are a natural citizen. If your parents are NOT citizens and you are born at a U.S. installation you are not a U.S. citizen of any kind.

Obama: Was born in Hawaii. Hawaii was a state when he was born (but would still be OK if it was still a territory). His mother was a U.S. citizen. Therefore Obama is a natural born U.S. citizen.

McCain's status is actually the one that could have the most holes punched in it by a pack of lawyers. Obama meets all of the requirements without question. It is also interesting that there is legislation being considered to define natural born or remove the clause all together and just state that a person must be a U.S. citizen whether natural born or naturalized. My assumption is that they are paving the way for Arnold to become President vis-a-vis the Simpson's Movie.
