does this sounds legit to you? philly shop selling imported cars...

Need some opinions, this seems like a good deal. Possibly too good of a deal but im not sure. Browsing the internet looking for cars for sale i came across a website that sells imported cars from japan and all that so rolling down the list i found a 97 skyline gts25 with like 80xxx km, which is like 40xxx miles for sale for $10000. Click on the link and there are pictures and all and says check out our website for full list of cars. i go to the website and it is a shop in philly, i called the guy and said i was interested in the skyline or possible the JDM integra type r they had on the page. He said they were both $10000, but the he's had the skyline for a while and trying to move some invetory so we could work out a good price. I asked if it was registered in the US, said no but he has a guy that can do it for $1500, he said he goes over to japan and picks out the cars and brings them back here to sell.

Now i think having a RHD car would be pretty sweet and if i can get the car and have it registered and all that for under 10k i think thats a pretty good deal, but im wondering if i get the car if the guy will be able to just have it registered or is it gonna cost me like another 15k to have it modified to US specs. Also do you think this is legit or possibly someone selling stolen cars from japan...anyway to check this?

I don't want to get into another debate about the importation of Skylines. So I'll just sum it up by saying...you can not legally import a Skyline and register it unless it's going to be an only show car or an only track car.

car was also probably stolen and illegally brought into the country to begin with... I'm not a skyline nuthanger by any means... but 10k seems pretty unbelievably cheap for a 97... try 10 for what... the r32? '89

I thought that the R32s and R33s were both able to be imported legally and driven legally? I'm probably wrong but just curious

yea its an r33 and not a gtr and ints pretty much stock so i dont see 10k being too far off par. and as for it only being a show/track car there are a few around that are legally register in the us that people drive around but i guess they have it registered as show car? and just drive it anyway...and they have about 5 cars at the shop right now...im really thinking they were stolen and illegally shipped here..ha but heres the site ha i didn't really want to give it out since i would buy the cae car, but i dont wanna go through all the hassle of gettin it legalized and all that. i mean i love the look of the r34 gtr's and i think they are worth the 40k+ that you can find them for with US titles already, but wouldn't want to put out too much for any other skyline ha...
heres some pics of the skyline..website is on the pictures....

yea that was my assuption too, thought it was just the r34 that you couldn't legalize after the shop in cali was shut down

thing im worried about is if this is a stolen car from japan and illegally shipped here and i buy it im pretty much boned for gettin it legalized and i am in possession of stolen propert ha double wammy

very few shops can bring cars in whole. most places that get cars brought over are usually cut in half at customs. pretty much making the car worthless.

yea i hear that a lot too, hense why you can find front clips pretty easy at shops and not whole cars. The ones this shop has are full and running cars. this is one of the things that makes me worry though:

this looks to be how the import them in, im guessing take them apart in japan, ship parts and then re-assemble here to make it so they are importing parts rather than cars?

R33 is the only model that has a few fully legal versions.

Just curious if it was stolen from Japan how would the US know about say you were pulled over or go to have it registered? Do they really communicate that much information on every stolen car, personally i dont think so

yea thought about that. Works a lot of the time, can say its a swapped 240, but risking a fellony offense if its somehow found out you swapped it...then its insurance fraud for insuring the car as something other than what it really is. best bet would be to pick it up get it registered as a show car and drive it anyway ha and say you are going to a show but didn't have a truck if you get pulled over ha

for the amount of money you would need for all of this. is half the price of a new GT-R. it ain't worth it in my opinion.

Why is that? The R33 is 10K asking, which he can prolly get for like 9. Then he pays $1500 for (illegal but as far as local cops and staties are concerned) legit registration and he has an R33 in the states for $10500. Last time I checked new GT-Rs are in the 80K range. Thats a difference and a half.

well for this car it would cost about 20k to have it fully legalized (get all the US spec things installed that make it illegal (or about 11k to have it "legalized") much less than the new gtr, also not as fast or nice looking...but i would never pay damn near 90k for the new gtr. would rather pay the 50-60k for one of the few r34 gtr's that are floating around that were legalized...
