urgent help needed please

http://www.club-s12.org/forums/index...howtopic=23913

edit: the car is an 88 200sx se-v6... pretty much all stock .

i have a drift event tomorrow. i just put the car all together and got it pretty much ready for it.

i was driving around today and all of a sudden the car started acting a little funny, like almost cutting out a little bit here and there. i pulled over and found a wire loom next to the battery had made contact with a pulley and a few wires were destroyed.

i did a quick rig on the side of the road and reconnected them using some random wire i had with me. go to start the car, and the battery seems dead.

i get my buddy to come help..

we used jumper cables from his car and my car started right up. so i drove the car home.

on the way home, i was revving it to all hell to try and charge the batt up. volts gauge was reading steady between 12 and 16

i get home, shut it off, and then try to start it and get nothing. not even a fuel pump buzz. seems like a battery is bad since the jumpstart works fine.

so i put my friends battery in my car and have the same problem, no start. and tried my batt in his car and his car started.

once we get my car started with a jumpstart, it runs fine, except once in a while i notice the tach and volts needles jump. and ofcourse, as soon as i shut it off, its off for good.

a weird thing is, i have this electric fan wired directly to the battery, grounded right to the fender. just a regular rocker switch inline on the ground. even this thing doesnt power up and its wired right to the battery that is known to be good. i am soo confused.

please help quick i want to get this car out tomorrow. prepaid 50 bucks registration lol

i dont even know where the fuse box is for the ignition and everything. i finally found the fuse box on the passenger side inside the car, but i dont see any in the engine bay...

do you have a voltometer (is that a word? ) if so, start the car and check readings on the battery and the alternator. then shut it off and check the battery.

take your batt out and carry a jumper box. batteries are just dead weight.

also, take your hood off(also dead weight) to make it easier to get to the terminals to jump it.

taking the battery out and the hood off would be good for the event, but seems like he drives the car around town so im guessing he needs it to work normally

Ok wow. I knew dragonfly was joking but you seem to think he is serious. I'm gonna add this bit of info so no one acutally thinks this is a good idea.

The battery acts as a buffer for the charging system and helps regulate voltage spikes from harming other electrical components.

To the OP,

What does it take to get your car started? You said with a battery it doesn't do anything? So I assume you are jump starting it? With the wires grounding out on the pulley you could have blew some fuses/smoked some wiring somewhere. Alittle more technical info would be helpful, like volate/amps the alternator puts out while the car is runing and if any fuses popped, also have you fixed your 'roadside repair' correctly? An intermitent connection could be your problem.

thanks for all the help. it seems like god doesnt like me these days lol

i added a new 4 gauge ground from the negative batt terminal to the bottom of the motor mount (chassis) as well as a thick ground from the engine block to the strut tower. also soldered all damaged wires. it took a while. turned the key and heard the sweet sound of fuel pump car started right up and i ran an hour worth of gas through it tonite. late night tonight for such an early morning tomorrow. ..

yay
