wireless internet problems...

I have a toshiba satellite laptop with a linksys wireless G card. The internet has been working for the past year than all of a sudden it states that the program isn't installed. I reinstalled it but it says the same damn thing! I tried a different card and it still didn't work (but both cards work in the other laptop). When I use the connection that I have to my desktop (that I'm on now) and plug it in to the back of my laptop (to the router) it works fine.

I have even reformated my laptop and re-installed everything, and the same thing happens. What could be the problem

thanks
Steve

You can get a decent laptop for about $1000 than wireless internet (router and card, don't need card if laptop has wireless built in) for about $50 and you only spend 1050 for wireless internet (assuming you already have broadband). It's not expensive and MORE than worth it

Did you try checking the 192.xx.x.x to see if it's picking up the card/laptop? Also did you try different channels in the router set up? Sometimes cell phones/home phones interfer with the wireless stuff. Is it not recognizing the card at all? Or not giving you a connection? Oh yea, and did you also try getting updates or anything for the card you are using?

It sounds to me that the driver took a crapper...sometimes happens.

I have a wireless laptop and sometimes it finds other wireless routers in the area, and switches the connection. Are you sure you are connecting to your nework? And you re-installed the drivers? I not a computer whiz, btw.

I gave up on my wireless internet. It is the biggest POS to get working. I had it all setup and it was working fine and then one day it just stopped. I tried everything and even called cutomer supposrt and still nothing. So I uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it an it worked fine. Then a few weeks later it did the samething again. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked fine. Then it stopped working again and I just saif F*ck it and gave up

go to control panel-->system-->hardware-->device manager-->click on network adapters and make sure the device driver is installed...if its not it should have like a red thing over it. double click it and reinstall the driver.. had to do it a couple times on my laptop too

call the geek squad!!! Serisouly though if its working on one machine and not another BUT you rebuilt the original machine with the same results then it's most likely a hardware issue. Maybe a fn combination to disable the pcmcia slot where you are inserting the card? Do you get lights on the wireless card? Beeps when you insert it? How about on the other machine?

can you be a little more specific? which "program" isnt installed?

the reason i asked is that you dont need a program.. as long as the driver is installed you can configure the connection directly in windows.

It could be the PCcard connector. Do you have any other cards, and are they working in the slot?
