Best Sports Car

Let's hear some opinions on what your favorite car is and why.

I'm also looking for some ideas for a car to get, preferably a sports car. I know my user name says Mitsubishi Girl but I'm open to all companies at the moment. I'm looking for an affordable car so if your going to recommend one to me please nothing like a Porsche, if an expensive car is your favorite still post it though I'd like to know. I'm looking for a sports car no more then $5,000 at the moment, manual, nothing newer then a 1999 unless it's cheap, and turbo would be nice too. I've been looking on craigslist but have only seen Mitsubishi Eclipses and 3000GT so far. Thanks for your help in advance!

Well with 5K your pretty limited and will more than likely buy someones headache for that kind of change. If I had 5K to burn I would put it toward another new car. If that is out reach then I would buy a clean 1st gen Talon TSI AWD and go from their.

I know it's not a lot but I don't make that much money at my job. The Eclipses and 3000's I was looking at aren't in too bad of condition, most of them are just moving to college and can't take the car. I'm not looking for anything too modded or perfect, just no major problem like transmission or engine replacement. Thanks though.

Well then the 3000 is allready off your list, it's a hard car to work on. Get a clean 1st gen. 4G63 for $5,000 and be happy with the stock HP. Make sure if you buy one its clean and serviced.

I know the 3000 is hard to work on my friend has one and needs to take it to the Mitsu car dealer to get it worked on and it's expensive there.

either spend cheap to buy it and use the rest of the cash to fix it.. or hunt like a mofo... because 5k really isnt going to get u anything to decent.

if i had 5k to spend id look for like a late 90's fbody and hop on a forum.. get a used cam a set of long tubes and a set of gears... and i bet itll be plenty fast enough for you. plus they are pretty reliable.

unless your dead set on a dsm. in that case take a trip over by me neck of the woods.. we have a **** ton of them over here in north east ohio.. all fairly good price/condition. and none of them are stock.. if u find one with a 16g and an exhaust thats considered "stock" over here.

Don't buy something turbo'd unless you can afford the upkeep. I own two turbo cars; And both have required much more costly repairs than anything N/A that I've driven over the years..

You can get an older miata for cheap, build a turbo kit, get tuning software, and have a ~2400lb RWD roadster with 200+ at the wheels and phenomenal handling.

But I am sure the exhaust is angled for back pressure to have a faster spool-up for larger size turbochargers @ low RPM

I'm liking the Miata and Integra. What are the prices on the older ones usually and how reliable are they? Not a fan of the Civics. I'm planning on getting a better car later on I don't have to send money on rent or anything at the moment. I just need something to get me to and from work and to play with a little bit.

kudos on planning to get a better car; i hate to see people buy a 5k car and invest 10k into it when they could've financed a 15k car or just gotten something nicer..... but i guess to each his own

enjoy whatever you end up getting

I'd get the Integra for a daily D. Very good aftermarket. It's a little more practical plus you have rock solid reliability there.

Those miatas are pretty damn reliable, I havent heard a single bad thing yet except for a few older models that had what was called a short nose crank, if you visit miata.net and look in the FAQ and garage sections there is more info on this there but it was only about 1% of reported miata owners that had the problem and it can easily be spotted by checking the VIN or counting the bolts on the crankshaft pulley. This was only on the 91 and early 92 models IIRC.

Otherwise, the miata has been a very reliable car through its entire production period. Look at consumer reports, ask owners, and go on ebay and see how many high mileage ones are on there. Also, check out www.carsurvey.org for your needs, its owner written reviews, and the NA miata (first generation) has all smiles last I checked. There were many special editions, and I think some good changes in the 95 year which included an LSD, but im not too sure. Check the sites I gave ya and you will find all of your info. In the end you will have a cute, fun to drive, quick, reliable, and fuel efficient roadster, with a good sized aftermarket to boot.

edit: pricing on miatas is very flexible depending on condition (yes, miata.net has a buying guide with a list of things and areas to check and what to look for when buying a used miata), mileage, etc. Ive seen them as low as 1000 for shells to 15000 for low mileage limited editions. You can find a good one for 5k and under, plus now that its fall, convertible season is dying and prices are dropping a bit so if you want to buy either do it now or when it gets cold out.
