I need to remove some clear coat swirls...

I know there have been threads on here regarding detailing and all the items needed. But when I've read through them, it seemed like they were mostly mail-order products or products that could only be purchased at a detail shop. My question is, what can I pick up (and where I live, Autozone and Advanced Auto are my only options) that will best remove small scratches/swirls in my clear coat? When I installed my turbo I didn't put anything over my fenders to protect the paint. Now I have a bunch of small scratches/swirls in the paint and it's driving me nuts!!! What would be the best product to manually polish/buff it out? Rubbing compound? What do you guys recommend?

But what if they encouraged it AND the stickers turn out to be awesome? They COULD POSSIBLY say something like "I love Mike and would turn gay for his tattooed, bmw driving, new york living ass". just saying.

your not going to get that great of results by hand. however, since that seems to be the point, try meguiars mirror glaze line of products. they have a rating right on the bottle of how much "cut" they have. make sure to finish off with a fine grade or "finishing polish". Use foam applicator pads, wipe off with Microfiber towels, and appply sealant/wax when done. also, you should clay the car after washing, and before polishing.

Is there anyway to figure out how much "cut" I need to start with?

And how much does a decent detail usually cost?

the typical train of thought is to start with something light.. and work your way up until you find you are getting the results you want.. then refine it by working back down to the light stuff.
