How much are you seeing? I used to have an '04 Spec V and I don't remember having any oil consumption to speak of.

The QR25 is known for burning oil because the cat is on the exhaust manifold. So what happens with your engine is probably your cat is going bad and the material inside the cat got suck into your engine and that will damage your piston ring. Your car probably has a check-engine light on for a cat-code. Next time when you change your oil, look for a brownish metallic color in your drained oil. If so, you need an engine.... which is sucks....well, you probably need an engine anyway because is already burning the oil.

Reminder: Don't even look for a used motor in the junk yard because it probably had the same problem and thats why it ended up at the junk yard.

This problem occurs in 04-05 VQ35's also. I believe the fix is a new engine, sorry to break it to ya.

Hopefully Nissan will stop putting cats so close to the head!

Does this car have any sort of warranty on the drivetrain? If so, take it to the dealer and have them start an oil consumption test (They will loc-tite everything so it cannot be tampered with).

yeah im going to have it serviced at the dealer in the next week or so. Will the dealer know if i used a non Nissan oil? Somewhere down the line i heard they could tell some way or another that its not the nissan specific oil that they sell... Sounds like bs but a little bird is in my ear.

Non-Nissan oil? As in oil that was not purchased from the dealer? Don't worry about that, as long as you have run the correct oil (weight and viscosity) you'll be ok. They shouldn't give you any crap about what brand oil you use.

Sounds typical of pre-cat failure... it is technically an emissions part, so you should still be under warranty... off to Nissan you should go to yell at them.

When I had my Spec V, I never had it long enough for the pre-cat to fail. I replaced the stock manifold with a Hotshot header without a pre-cat. From everything I had read at the time (and the entire time I owned the car) the break down of the pre-cat caused a hell of a lot mroe damage than oil consumption. I'm by no means saying that couldn't cause your problem, I'm just saying 99% sucking that **** into your motor equaled blown motor. But by all means keep up posted. I'd like to hear what they have to say about it.

Usually it kills the piston rings and scores the cylinder walls, so unless you bore the block, the engine is trashed.

one other GREAT and VIP thing to do is make sure the butterfly valve screws are loctited down. as you can see in these pics, i caught the problem to late.

the story behind this is that on sunday i started getting a very sluggish feel while accerating. i had a flashing CEL for missfire and i had a foulded plug in no.4 cycl. took it re-gapped it and put it back in and it still didnt feel right. the ecu threw codes for MAF lowinput, temp sensor high, and i had a existing code for a CPS. so i replaced both the CPS and the Cam Pos Senor and still had maf low input. now it all makes sense on what was going on here. the plate got stuck in the intake runner and caused a blockage like a choking person. cars at the dealer now getting fixed, and a pre cat inspection. and there gonna locktite them ****s in for me. so if anyone is reading this and has a qr25de just do this so you dont end up like this.

also the major oil consumption is a sigh of pre-cat failuer. if your butterfly valve screws do become loose they could end up in the cat, and will cause the cat to fail as well.
just some info that i though i would share with everyone.

To the original poster, read this: http://myspecv.com/f/t4739-qr25de-pr...screw-faq.html It has good info on both of the two most common QR problems.

i had the repairs done today at my dealer in doylestown, they replaced all for 4 valves, and the screws and locitied them inplace so there stuck. the missing valve was found in the intake runner. a compression and leak down test were performed and everything is now ok. although my precat is wasted, im gonna look for a header after my visit to R/T Tuning tomorrow.
