JDM EVO Swap Power Limits

ok so there is a full evo swap at jdm exchange my question is will i be able to make the numbers i want on the motor and tranny i'd be swapping over my act 2100 clutch and my newer tranny parts i had installed, and likley would buy a multi-layer headgasket. I'm buying either a bullseye 50-trim or a V-trim and would be running 20-22 psi (not daily) looking for around 350 awhp. I've heard people get up to 500hp on a stock6-bolt 4g63 motor before. think i'll be safe?

It will come down to your tuning for it to be at all reliable, but yeah the engine is good for the power you want as is.

Oaks is about 45min from where I live, I used to go a couple of years ago. Maybe I'll try to break free and get down there again one of these weeks. I really don't talk to Will much, I only ran into him every so often at RT.

I don't know anything about the intakes, but I would just use whatever is easiest. I've come to find that any of the higher end designed stock intakes really don't differ between each other.

Is it the cyclone intake manifold? That one has runner flaps so it is supposed to be better for torque. But very few people are satisfied with it after they do the swap.

Th Cyclone (JDM) manifold has better lower tq numbers but give up power top end. The manifold is useless unless you can control the flappers. I say put the stocker back on.

If your looking to make 350, turbo sizing and effcientcy is what will matter. You need to flow the air to make the numbers. Depending on teh turbo, you can run 20 psi or 40 psi to make 350hp. What you need to do is get a good management sytem and supporting mods. Cant just slap a turbo on and hope to make 350. Im sure you can get 350hp out of a EVO16g and keep the car reliable. The stock motor will take almost anything you throw at it, it all comes down to the tune/tuner. I hope this has helped you a little.

yes it has thank you guys very much, i will be using either a 50-trim or bullseyes' v-trim turbo (depends on the money situation) i want a 50-trim but my new 680cc injectors are too small to run north of 25 psi. the v-trim will get me 350 awhp at or around 22 psi.

I'll be running with an safc/wideband setup, or if this dude goes 1/2s on dsmlink with me thats what i'll be using.

dsmtuner: what was your friends name who tuned your car? if your the guy i'm thinking of from oaks last week

350 on an evo 16g may be possible but i'm sure it would have to be set at like 25 or up psi and thats not street smart

Forget about the AFC, at the very least get Dsmlink, it's not THAT expensive.

There is nothing special about the JDM motor. You get nothing that you wouldn't get on any other 6 bolt motor if you don't count the injectors that you might get. Other then that you are starting with the same thing and probably paying more for it.

You can make those number at less then 25 psi on pump gas on a 50 trim.

id just get an eprom ecu, you can pick one up for about the same price as an afc and you can just socket it and burn chips. thats what im doing, i dont have any fancy dsmlink.

yes that was me at the oaks meet and his name is steve, screen name is smelly240. and he just got all his tuning stuff back that got stolen so he is back up and running again.

A burned eprom is good for nothing other then injector compensation. DSMlink is the best datalogger I have ever used, adjustable rev limits, stutterbox, anti lag, timing contol, and on and on. It is cheap for what it does.

im not saying burning eprom chips are as good as dsmlink, but i have all that stuff you mentioned. i have adjustable timing, rev limiter, launch control, and so on. dsmlink is cheap for all it does but burning eprom chips are even cheaper for all it does.

if money is a concern, youre going to need an eprom ecu thats socketed to use dsmlink anyway so until you get money for dsmlink you can do what im doing and burn chips.

where does one get a socketed ecu? and if your friend (dsmtuner) can tune my car with what i have then i dont need to worry about link or burning chips cuz once i get the jdm swap the turbo setup i'm parking the car and buying a daily beater so i can save money.

the best place to find an eprom ecu is on the forums. it doesnt even matter what its out of, a dsm, a galant vr-4, auto, manual, it doesnt matter cause its going to get reflashed with your info anyway. my tuner, smelly240, can socket it for you. i think the socket is about 10 dollars and a reflashable chip is only a few dollars. he has all that stuff on hand at all times. theres a chance were going to be at the oaks meet again tommorrow if you want to talk to him.
