So I'm going back to school.

The other night I was bored and took the test for computertraining.com. And passed. I was a business and computer major in high school but that was years ago. I've kinda run out of options and my bills and pay just dont add up together. Susie and I are finally moving in together within the next month and I dont want us to live paycheck to paycheck. So I really hope this works out well. I'm really scared because its alot of money and its going to take some time from my life that I've grown quite comfortable with. But hopefully it will all work out for the best. According to them, my test scores showed that I have more than just the capacity to persue a career in IT.

Is there anyone currently in the IT feild or going to school for it that could give me any advise?

Personally I dont believe in the "tech schools", my mom went to 2 of them back in the day when the computer industry was still booming and with no success in finding a job. Id do a bit more research on it before you commit to anything, or talk to Scapegoat, I think he is in that field.

I had my meeting with the administrations people today. The school is nationally accedited and to stay funded by microsoft they mush graduate and place 70% of students. So it sounded pretty good from there. I was just with them for about 2 hours this morning really. Classes are small and very hands on. Homework is all online and the classes are 2 nights a week for months.

Thats what Im hoping to accomplish. I have to get out of goodyear because i am making nothing there and have no hopes of moving forward. If I could find something close during the day that would be great. Or maybe I can get to stripping late nights at the cave. Thats what chicks do right lol?

You have to, otherwise you'll be evicted lol.
Also, living close to work is a plus. I'm about 6 miles and I'm debating on riding my bike to work to save gas.
You'll realize how fast money goes; you can make a huge bake ziti dish to feed 6 people for less than 20 bucks. my girlfriend and i had it for dinner last night, i had the leftovers for lunch at work, and i will probably have it as a snack later tonight. Left overs, prepared meals, etc.

You'll figure it out

The downside to this is that it is getting really over-filled in many areas. That, and vendor specific certs are really NO help anymore when finding a good job.

That being said, it is also a great industry to work in, since nearly EVERY company needs someone in IT. Once you get done, apply to hospitals, and financial service companies, being as they tend to pay better then even most tech companies do.

IT isn't all that great
go into networking instead of systems
then once in networking do VOIP if you want a good career for a while

PM me if you want a Network Engineer's take on things...I also taught at Tech schools and one thing you want to take most advantage of is the placement office...make friends with the people there as they're the ones that can make a big difference in what you will get paid. There's a lot that goes on behind the scene in a tech school that you need to be aware of to make the best of it. If you want I can fill you in on Thursday at Whitman....it's much easier to talk with a beer and not having to type all this crap out.

Yeah that would be great, Ill try and make it out this week. They do have a great career placement person who seemed really nice when I met with her today. Im going to be going in for the oreintation and then pre-class meetings to get to know the teachers, students and classes. Im a big kissass when it comes to school so teachers usually like me. But I also learn fast so that makes the ass kissing okay.
