How do you take a picture like this?

http://rgweb.registerguard.com/pano/...T/Hurdles.html

Is it a certain camera/rigged system. Only curious since it's a panoramic of everything occurring that second. Just curious.

Picture is from Olympic Trials.

I see at least 2 300 2.8L's and not a single tripod or even monopod. The photogs must be Olympians themselves

the 300 2.8 is about 6-7 lbs. Add in the weight of a pro 1 series body and it's about 12-13 lbs with the battery, which is hand hold territory. Most won't need a monopod until 15-18 lbs to hold for 7+ hours.

To answer the original question, a panorama tripod head is used. Example: http://www.manfrotto.com/page2357.html

I don't think that head was used

It's a single exposure

It's what Realtors use for 360 images.

Similar to this:

But I can't find a good shot of the better versions.

it doesnt have to all be taken at the same time, its probably more likely that it wasnt since there's action going on directly in front and behind the camera. it could even be handheld, just take a bunch of photos then stitch them together, erasing some parts that overlap and using all the frames that have peak action in them.
as for how to put it into the rotating program online... no idea there. i only know how to put it into a 2 dimensional rectangular photo.

naah, it could be stitched together, but my mother is a realtor and she rented out these 360 things all the time. Isnt that the same concept as stitching a few shots together? Im sure soemthing as complex as taking a full 360 still shot would have its flaws, like a lines or sketchy seams

The good (expensive) programs can make a stitch seamless.

It is definetly a stitch. If taken on a pano head stitching is so easy you could do it in mspaint. The flash is definetly a custom job. Although you can find code and plugins that'll let you create quick "3d" engines like the one they used.

the shadows all fall off weird. def stitch. the flash is cool, it was probably made in swift 3d then exported as flash to add the controls. Unless the newer version of flash has that kind of 3d capability? Seems like it would be as simple as making the Pano-photo follow a circular path in a 3d environment. and or a cylinder with a camera in the middle doing the rotation?
