There are a decent amount of mods you can do these days for the 3s platform. Ips makes good stuff for exhaust and pretty much anything you could want. A exhaust and a boost controller with a few supporting mods really wakes these cars up. I'd also suggest checking out 3si.org they have a ton of information over there that should get you going in the right direction.

There are a lot of options for exhaust. it depends what you're looking for.

Same goes for engine. What is your budget, and what are you looking to get out of the car?

you can do some mild power-adders (boost controller, intake, etc, etc). Or you can upgrade the turbos, to any number of sizes.

I current have a 13g/15g combo on mine, and I'm in the midst of upgrading to an evo3 16g turbo set-up, and a 6spd conversion. I have a built engine (forged internals), and a bunch of other goodies. That's not cheap though.

It really just depends what you're looking to get out of your car, and how much you want to spend, to get there

how much are you looking to spend? 6spds are generally pretty pricey, unless you find one with excessively high mileage.

7g's will get you a GREAT condition 1g.

If you are careful with what you buy, they are pretty much problem free.

They have a lot of problems, because they're abused by 17 year olds, and sold once they start having issues.

I've never had any problems with any of mine (and I've had, and currently HAVE quite a few), aside from wear-and-tear (brakes, tires, thermostat, etc). small stuff, that when fixed right away, keeps the car from having huge problems later on.

Shoot me a PM, and I can help you out, if you're interested.

I'm sick and tired of people ragging on the 3/s platform. Like Girly said it is because kid beat the piss out of them and then their parents sell the car with out ever fixing it. This has brought the price of admission down considerably. The parts and labor however have not come down in price. They are expensive. But lets think about it its a $40,000+ sports car that you are buying for $7,000. If they did not have a dodge equivalent they would be selling for what the Z's are going for.

ive had my vr4 for almost 3 years and i have never had a serious problem that i couldnt fix myself. the cars are great when taken care of but if you buy a piece of ****, then it will act like one. be prepared to spend a LOT of time doing simple things like changing spark plugs, etc.. if you have 7 grand then look around for a clean 1993 vr4.. they have a tougher xfer case and a 4 bolt motor..

basic power upgrades will get you in the low 13's high 12's.. when your bored with that then go for more efficient turbos and supporting mods. Spend a lot of time reading and talking to enthusists. Take your car to south jersey meets where there are a few VR4s... Dont take you car to ground zero performance and dont trust anything emiliee or hans try to sell you.

Join 3si.org... theres a ton of support there for new owners. Heck come hang out with me anytime!... activeseven on here has great 3s partys in north jersey..

Good luck man.. PM me for any other advice.

like they said, even though I don't have one, I've heard a ton of good things from 3si.org, even browse there myself sometimes.
