Powder coating woes

I stripped my fuel rail from "anodized red' powder in favor of Eastwood "translucent purple" powder. The red was a pain originally - these are both transparent colors so they can be pretty difficult to apply. I had to do the red twice when I did it get it right - twice meaning stripped bare again once.

Well I stripped the red, cleaned, blasted, and applied the purple. I got really dark spots on the edges of it - probably too much powder. Stripped it. Blasted, outgassed, and applied thinner. This time it was more consistent, but too thin!

wiped it down, and went for a 2nd coat on top rather than stripping it all the way down again. Ugh! Turned out pretty good this way but man, not fun.

If I don't like this in the long run I'll just drop it off to Bonehead - I love coating, but I don't like coating the same part 2 or 3 times

Here's the outcome:

Trying to get things purple under the hood to match the wastegate/bov/wiggins

This pic makes it look darker than it really is.

Oh I mainly just do it for myself and friends - you either have to do it full time as a business or just as a hobby. I do it as a hobby.

I bought a blast cabinet and a powder coating set-up from another forum a while ago. I have yet to use it due to not having an oven, but I can't wait!
