Thats the thing, you don't need a new car. As long as your car is "SAFE", and by that I mean it will pass tech inspection, you can race it and have tons of fun.
Yesterday alone I saw an Infinty SUV, a Jeep Grand Cheroke (sp?), some old beatup hondas, acuras, fords and there was even an old Toyota w/ steelies ripping it up. ![]() I guarantee if its your first time on a road course, no matter what you are driving, you won't be able to out drive the car. |

little vid from the last session of Pocono.
Notice the audi R8 and C6 that BLOW by me on the straight. They were by far the fastest cars in the white group that day. Aside from those two cars I didn't get passed all day. Great fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVNtByE1FsA not that its a race or anything, but for those who have been there before, I was turning 1:06's. |

How long does the instructor have to sit with you for? I can't wait for this to come to millvile it'd be a little closer then Pocono's.

I didn't have to have an instructor but I requested one since I wanted to learn the correct line. last time I was out there by myself and didn't learn a damn thing. After the first session my instructor told me I could go out on my own if I wanted to, but I kept him with me for the 2nd & 3rd sessions and only went solo on the 4th and last session of the day. Since its not a race I like having an instructor with me in the car so I can ask questions and get their opinion in real time.
But to answer your question; it really depends on how comfortable you are out there. Almost every racing orginazation requires that you get "signed off" to go "solo" by an instructor. Even if you've been racing for over 20 years like my instructor, when you go to a new track you would need a ride along and an approval by an instructor to be out there by yourself. If you are a first timer, it could be as quick as a couple of sessions if your instructor thinks your a natural, or it could be a couple track days until you get signed off. It depends a lot on the track though. SOmething like Pocono is an easy track to navigate, a track like Shenandoah is another story all together. |

Sounds like you had a great weekend as well... I placed 3rd in my race on Saturday out of my 8 car field. My car is still grossly underpowered compared to cars in my class, so I had a great day. Some of my fast laps were in the 1:00 range, hopefully we can start to get a bigger TST turn out at the track.
