Gas in a year or so?

so im sitting in philosophy class right now and we are talking about the ****ty gas prices. my teacher heard that within a year or year and a half gas could go up to $7-$8 a gallon.

Discuss

i think if this happens there will be some major problems in this country.

What really bothers me is how the gas that you put in you car was bought months and months ago, that's how they can predict what gas prices will be in the future. Yet, when all of a sudden the price of a barrel of oil increases, gas prices sky rocket even though that gas was paid for a long time ago at a cheaper price. The whole gas prices thing is such a scam.

the fact that they can get away with it pisses me off cause think about it, all the major gas providers probably sit in a room and go "alright how much do we wanna make this month and **** everyone else over?" they can do that because they are a god damn monopoly, and im worried that even when we switch to hydrogen or whatever else, that the same thing will happen because we depend on energy, so they can make it whatever price they like

its all tied into our reserves and the foreseeable future.
gas prices will eventually get to a point thats so uncomfortable for people that they will push for alternative fuels much more than they are now... when the gas prices really get bad enough and the people push for a solution hard enough, then the politicians and the manufacturers will respond, and eventually there will be a response/solution. well, either that or world war 3.

whats just as sickening as the way that the people in control take advantage, is the apathy of the consumer who just likes to sit on their ass and complain, but not do a damn thing about it. they couldn't sell it if we weren't buying it... its works both ways and 'we' as super-consumers are to blame as much as anyone for the situation.

well if a republican gets elected president, im goin with WWIII, other wise with the plan that obama is goin with, the credit system? the energy producers will be have to pay for the amount of "carbon credits" the can use, thus making what we pay go up too, but the money that is taken from this will go towards research for alternative fuels, so in the long run it will help, and the way things are looking, hydrogen is the fuel of the future

I am paying $4.00 a gallon on base but downtown it is E1.44 a liter. The Germans are paying about $8.00 a gallon now. HOLY! Something has got to give!

The way I see it is, we are teetering at the top of the hill with alternative fuels and ways to power cars, but as Troll said, the push to get things really rolling is not strong enough. If gas goes to $7-8 a gallon, I personally wont have the income to drive... Which leads to a disaster with school, work, and other things obviously. I was just talking with a coworker who is from Cambodia and he said that they are currently building equipment an rigging to drill/pipe oil from over there starting in 2010. What validity that has, I don't know, but to me that makes it worse because if we start drilling from new places, doesnt it become more expensive to do so, leading to more expensive prices for the demanding consumers?

I dunno. This sucks haha.

All of this talk about alternative fuels is all part of their scam. I mean, your talking about technology that would take AT LEAST 10yrs+ to develop and implement into a consumer product that people would actually want to buy. So what are you supposed to do in the mean time as prices go up for no reason at all?

There is no gas shortage or crisis. Oil companies and our government are in bed together. Wait till the elections in November. You'll see gas prices drop faster then Britney Spears panties.

Here's the bad news.
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...0C198A8A0D5%7D

So the question now is, are the cars that most of us on this forum drive going to be worthless in 5 years because no one will want to buy a 15 mpg vehicle?

bryan i agree. most people cant afford to do something about it. its gotten that bad that people are scared. most people are scared that if they boycott work and driving, they will get fired. instead of everyone in the country doing it and telling the gov't to **** off.

i agree it is a scam. im so sick and tired of hearing about alternative fuels and ****ing global warming. our gov't just wants to put fear in us and everyone buys into their bull****. when someone says something to me about alternative fuels and global warming i tell them to shove it cause they are barking up the wrong tree.

honestly i hope something happens to this gov't and big business.

The Government has there hands in the pockets of the Oil Tycoons over in the middle east, and I firmly believe that. while the post about North Dakota brings new light into the Fact that AMERICA Has oil producing capabilities...There was a whole previous debate about the prospect of drilling in Alaska, anyone ever hear of ANWR? It's basically a coalition of people who are AGAINST drilling in Alaska...which if they lifted the Ban to drill there would GREATLY Reduce our needs for Middle eastern Oil, would create more jobs for Americans AND LOWER the price of Gas.

This goes back to Clinton being in Office...

http://american.edu/ted/alaska.htm

This story about how even ALASKA is having problems with Energy...yet there sitting ontop of what could be the most abundant source of Oil in America, yet no one can touch it.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0123/p03s03-usgn.html

There are Many articles on the issue...Really this whole thing makes me Sick...Gas is going up, the economy is in the ****ter and we as Americans are Struggling to get by. And as already stated by TROLL, We wont ever stop using Gas...you couldn't get the whole country to boycott it...But believe me when i say, if we did...there would be quite a ripple in how the world viewed Us as a country.

truer words were never spoken.

this was discussed in a "current events" class i once had. the gas at stations was produced and purchased months behind, but the day oil hits 100 a barrel gas prices skyrocket THAT day...its such a lie...
