Hate to burst your bubble but not gonna work to legally import a car to us it needs to be 25 years or older any other car needs to meet epa requirements and dont even think about a skyline thats not gonna happen for a long time you can however bring it over for I think three years but then you have to ship it back their are a few cars that you can bring over and meet epa requirements but you end up paying way to much in the long run, makes me wish sometimes I lived in canda

you can import it yes but getting it through customs is another story you need a RI(registered importer) Then you need to prove that they will be doing all the requirements to meet epa standards its alot I was going to do this a couple years ago and its way to much of a hassle I would have ended up paying 20 grand for a four thousand dollar car and not to mention the red tape god its nuts

So you cant just bring a car over and say you are using it just for shows and your trailering it, your not going to run it?

or you could do things the sneaky way and get the car in 2 pieces, a rolling chasis and than the motor, than drop the motor in yourself and you'd be set. I don't know if thats a loophole or not.

You can bring it in as a show car but you must show it has some sort of historical significance or you can bring it in under another term but it must be shipped back in three years and that whole bringing in two pieces and labeling it as a kit car doesnt work either you might be able to squeek it by but more times than not your f'ed it sucks I did figure out one way though it is shady and requires another shady person but it will work. here you can find a list of eligible cars for importation

You can import ANY car for racing purposes. You must have the sanctioning body of the racing series you plan to compete in put in writing your intentions to race the car.

And you can bring in seperate peices of a car and put them back together as a kit car. There is a guy in California that has a R35 GTR. How did he do it? Buy a brand new R35...sell the drive-train....buy another r35....sell the chassis.....ship the car to the us....ship the drivetrain to the us....as long as the motor and drivetrain have seperate VIN numbers...LEGAL

That's how the Noble dealer in Ohio does it. They even send the motors to a place in texas to get worked over before they give you the name of a facility that will put the motor BACK in the car and help you register it as a kit car.

Nice loophole.

the 3 year thing your referring to is called a Temporary import or TIB...but if you plan to keep the car, its pointless.

There is also something called a Carnet, which serves the same purpose, it allows you to import for show/exhibit purposes, but then must be exported back within a deignated period of time.

I don't know the process for importing permanently though. I can tell you if it is able to be done, it is very expensive when all is said and done. A member of another forum wanted to import a RS focus from UK. He basically determined he'd be paying for the car twice to get it over here and documented 100% legit.

Yeah I remember my friend telling me you can import the chasis and drivetrain seperately for an r35 and get it over here I forgot about the racing purposes but I think you can only drive it on the roads for like 2000 miles a year the rest is track time and it has to be well documented as far as the kit car it has to be a car that was never in production for it to be labeled as a kit car but their are many loopholes in that one I t is pointless unless you have the money I was gonna import a mr2 and I figured out would have cost me 16,000 total for a car that I would have paid 4 grand for
