Smell gasoline at startup.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to the engine bay. but can't tell where it would be leaking... On a separate note, I installed 1step colder plugs. Ever since then, my gas mileage is horrible... why is this?

I assume your car is stock.
if so then the colder plugs are not needed. Not one bit. cold start fuel smell can be traced to the fuel lines directly behind the A/C compressor, right under the manifold. common problem

As Ryan said, for general rule of thumb for every 80+ horse power you make over stock you should go one step colder. I'd put the regular plugs back in.
Also as ryan said raw fuel smell is a common problem. Of course my car runs so rich it always smells like gas..... |

not enough mods to warrant colder plugs (a stage 2 car doesnt need them at all)

My fried who worked at Rafferty Subaru told me when I started doing my 04' wrx swap that there was either a recall or a tsb about a fuel smell during cold start up. I forget what it was though. Maybe something to do with the fuel rail.

There are some metal fuel lines that meet under the manifold and are connected with a short legnth of rubber fuel line. The rubber line is not long enough, and causes fuel to leak out.
It's not an easy fix, as you have to remove the manifold to get to the rubber lines. It hasn't caused any engine fires or anything that I know of, so don't really worry about it. You just have to deal with the smell of raw gasoline in the morning.
