Stereo issue: whirring noise that mirrors rpm's

Heres my setup:

1 12" Kicker L7
1 Rockford 900w single channel
1 rockford 450w 4 channel
2 5.5" rear speakers (kenwood)
2 6x9" front eclipse 3 ways

Up until recently, the speakers were being powered by the head unit, using the stock wiring. I already had both amps and the sub in and working (although nothing was hooked up to the 4 channel yet). Just recently I did all the wiring to amp the speakers too, and they sound great, everything works perfect. Except i have a whirring noise while the engine is running. The whirring matches the speed of the engine. Is this a grounding issue or something? Any ideas?

Funny you should mention this. When I got the car, it was already wired for an amp/sub, and the power wire was run right next to the RCA cable. When I discovered this (and realized I needed to run a second RCA cable anyway), I changed the RCA's to one side of the car and the power on the other. Ill check those grounds tomorrow.

several things can cause this. If you have an ipod that uses an an adapter into an Aux-in in your head unit, if that comes close to your speaker cables it makes the whirring sound. same with your power wire and ground wire. If its near your alternator itll do it or if any wiring runs near your radiator fan...although i dont know why youd do that. anything that uses some sort of little motor like the rad fan or window motor or has a whine thats electrical, the alternator, can cause this sound.

Check the ground, route RCA interconnects on the opposite side of vehicle that the power wires are running on, If that fails, invest in some decent sheilded RCA's

bad ground like others are saying. also if power wire is close to rca's that could cause it too
