Website critique please

http://rogue.bucks.edu/~harrise2441/...quer/Home.html

Hopefully this link will work. I am not positive. Eitherway, i had to design or redesign a website with our own topic of choice. I have flash that i am working on incorporating soon enough. This is strictly free hand XHTML at the moment. It is for my final project that is due in about 3 weeks. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas to what needs improvement. I know that the banner at the top is kinda bleh but its just to serve its purpose. the class is based around web design and layout, not artistic ability.

thanks guys
Questions? just ask.

Looks good, simple design. I would make the div about 50px taller so the "Our Mission" page fits without having to scroll.

Edit: Now that I've been looking at it for a few minutes I would invert the colors. That way the box won't be so obvious. It'll look cleaner IMO.

I think you missundertood. The page fits in my monitor just fine. It's the div what I'm talking about. The Mission page with the input fields is too big for the div and you end up having to scroll like 50px to get to the submit button. I was just suggesting that you make the div 550px.

you can do a lot with css. I barely use tables anymore. but it's a clean layout personally i prefer to scroll the whole page, but thats just an opinion. fonts and color can do a lot, these seem very basic and kind of boring. I also might give the table more padding, so the text isn't so close to the sides. A footer could also be beneficial, copyright info, additional links to pages. It's super clean code.

don't take me the wrong way, it's really clean, just basic

Yea its about...2 weeks old, only maybe 12 hours of work total. I would like to go a little more complex. Its only for school though. basically just a test to see if we understand HTML and XHTML. Yea, i put the scroll bar in just the DIV because some pages didnt need a scroll bar, some did. When the page did need the scroll bar, the entire page shifted just a few pixels and it really bothered me. I wanted it to have a clean load to each page.

never ever scroll something inside the page unless you are doing something like dickssportinggoods.com has for their commercials page...

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/co...ge=commercials

you can't do that with basic programming... but normal scroll bars inside of a page look like ass and don't fit the theme/design of the page.

leave scroll bars where they should be overflow:hidden is the only reason you need to user overflow. Unless you need to switch between that and visible...

I agree 100% it looks like ass.

The rest of the site loks pretty cool though. The images on the main page also loaded very slowly for me.

image maps and table based layouts are reserved for email templates only, with a few web based exceptions...

tables are for tabular data.

image maps can be used if you've got something like a map and you want to specific states/counties etc linked... **** like that.

use css and div's mostly, and correctly ;) remember to use the browsers inherent flow of content to you advantage. People end up putting div's around everything, when a simple style rule on an img tag could be used for the same affect... or on paragraph tags, etc.

the layout looks good, but whatever image editing software you used made your logo really distracting to the rest of the website.

are you stuck using times? it looks like a word document inside, any other font would make it look much smoother
