both a benefit, and a nuisance of working at an IT company

When your development environments go down you can't work...

while that gives you time to sit around and be lazy, and that is awesome... it gets really freaking annoying when you want to get back to work because the day begins to drag on and on...

I've been sitting here for a little over an hour now with no way of touching any code.

Want to swap with me for an hour? I could use an hour break.

nah that's ok

I'm contemplating just taking my laptop and heading home for the rest of the day... I can at least get some chores done while I wait for this crap to get back up

i kinda get the same benefit/nuisance...I work in export logistics..when our system goes down, i can't touch any customs documents..so i get to sit around for a bit..but when it comes back up, i'm scrambling that much more to get everything caught up because it's time sensitive.

I work in the other side of IT so when you're relaxing because something is down I am busting my ass to get it back up lol.
