How come there are still NO SMOKING signs on airplanes?

Do people forget that you cannot smoke on a plane since what, the 70s? Jesus.

There are people that still try to smoke. A flight attendant last year told me about a flight that they had to turn around because someone ripped the detector out of the bathroom and was smoking in it.

The best was a Southwest flight last year that announced "Pagers are not approved for use at any time during the flight. If you're still actually carrying a pager, just pass it to the front and we'll be sure to dispose of it for you..."

With those damn miniscule bathrooms, I wonder that just about having to take a piss. I'm on some flights where I swear half the plane uses the bathroom during the 2 hrs we're in the air...

Hah, when I flew to Germany I contemplated lighting a butt halfway over the atlantic. I figured theyd just make me put it out, but i could probably suck down half of it by the time i'd get caught.

Granted, Id never have the balls to try it, and dont smoke cigarettes anymore... but damn, nic fits can be a bitch sometimes.

QFT.
And people that haven't been on an airplane or seen an airplane before.
Sorta like the NJ no smoking in restaurant thing. Someone vacationing in New Jersey may light up thinking they can.

I think most states now, you cannot smoke indoors. I know when it happened in DE, a lot of smaller places went out of business, and started moving over to MD, since it is still legal to smoke indoors there.

Which, actually really confused me when I was in Ocean City last year, and the waitress asked me and friend friend if we wanted smoking or non-smoking seating.

i have noticed it on private aircraft that its not that un-common. I was surprised to see it on something like a sabreliner, even though it was military.

Isn't there some legislation at work to start banning smoking in all PA restaurants, tho'?

I'm pretty sure they banned it in restaurants in the Philly area about a year ago. I think.

Yes, you cant smoke indoors in Philadelphia. But outside of the city its ok.

I tried to paint my nails one time on a plane, that didnt go over too well.

in philly the rule is: if you make more than 10% in revenue in alcohol beverages, you cannot have smoking in the building.

Airliners go further up than most private planes. Into an atmosphere with less o2. the plane relies a great deal on the air that it brings up with it in order to supply those riding along with enough oxygen to live...

I'm not sure about you, but I've always been under the impression that fire, even the minuscule amount that is burning the tobacco requires oxygen. So if you have people smoking, you are depleting the amount of oxygen in the air for people to breath. Not only that you're also needing to fit all the planes with a better filtration system to suck out the smoke, or store it somewhere on board till it lands... so you're pulling even more air out of the cab.

Besides, people are stupid... you take away a sign that's been there forever and people assume they can do what the sign told them not to do since its gone.

Keep in mind many of those airplanes were built when you still could smoke on the airplane. I've seen some newer Airbus jets that lack the no smoking lights, but the airline added stickers.
