Dent removal with a lighter?

This seems to make sense to me about why it could work, but I would be scared to take a lighter near my paint. I have a good dent that I wanna pull but this method scares me.

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/963248...ith_a_lighter/

Does it really work? Does it damage your paint too?

WOW I'm trying this. I read over on ClubRSX that you can remove dents kinda the same way with dry ice.

I don't see how it would mess up your paint if you put the foil there.

Yeah I was thinking that's some special crap too because that's not spray air he's using.....it's some sort of liquid coolant I think.

that liquid should still be the spray duster stuff, just turn the can upside down when you spray it. The stuff is stored under pressure as a liquid and when released it releases from the top and comes out as a gas. BUT if you hold the can upside down when you spray it will release the liquid and as the liquid sits on your paint evaporating it gets very cold.

yea I was just gonna say but he beat me to it you must turn the can upside down for the liquid to come out. I recommend wearing a glove or something as that can will get extremely cold.

to clear this up real quick it works by heating the metal making it "shrink" then expand poping the dent back out. if the dent is creased or too large it will not work. honestly i dont even think it would work on a door ding type dent. the dent they took out in the vid was like if you gently sit on the hood of a car and the hood convaves inward where the metal isnt damaged/ streched

but in theory for the guys who wanna try it and are worried about messing their paint up from the foil scratches or the flame try this

rub and ice cube/dry ice on the dent then use compound and a buffer to heat the surface (buffing can create the same heat that the lighter will in 30 secx like the vid suggests

The metal sounds really thin when it pops out. Some of you guys may just have thicker panels and won't be able to do this.

I did it. Didn't work. It is creased. I think I need to get it hotter. I might try a propane torch. I don't give a **** about my paint so it's whatever. I'll post pics and vid.
