****ing middletown cops and their safety check points

ok so my phone died at work, so i decided to run home (about 5 minute round trip) and on my way home noticed on 413 there was like 15 cops and road flares, i passed and figured it was an accident already cleaned up. well i come back down 413 returning to work and when i approach the cops and their "checkpoint" im waved into a parking lot right near the great american diner. so i pull in and this is how the conversation goes.

Me: Hi officer, uhh whats going on here.
Officer: Where are you going?
Me: Back to work.
Officer: Why did you leave work, to get high?.
Me: (i kinda chuckled) No sir, my phone died i had to get my charger (i showed him my charger)
Officer: So your phone died, lemme see your phone i dont believe you.
Me: No you have no right to see my phone.
Officer: Step out of the vehicle.
Me: ok
Officer: Where are the drugs?
Me: Officer im on my way back to work, i need to get back there.
Officer: License, registration and insurance.

( i search my glovebox and remember my ins. and reg. are in a folder from the tag place and i think i left it at home).

Me: I think i left my reg. and ins. papers at home, i can call my roommate to bring them.
Officer: Or you can walk.

(^^ totally uncalled for dickhead comment)

Me: Ok let me check my trunk.

(i open my trunk to find a bottle of window cleaner opened and soaked the folder plus my jacket.

Officer: Is that beer on the folder.
Me: no its basically water.

(i open up a folder full of stuff and start searching.

Officer: Why do you have an extra license plate in there.
Me: Its from my old car, i left it in there from the tags place.
Officer: Are you stealing cars, and making drug runs with this license plate?
Me: what?
Officer: I SAID! ARE you stealing cars, and making drug runs with this license plate!? (angry voice, almost yelled it)
Me: i dont understand whats going on right now. This is rediculous.
Officer: Whats rediculous is you left work to get high and we caught you.
Me:no definetly not.

(so i find my papers, hand them to him and a few minutes go past. The officer radio's in my license plate, the plate in my folder, my insurance and my registration. It all comes back clean and good).

Officer: Well i guess i cant write you any tickets now can I?
Me: I really need to get back to work before i get fired.
Officer: Thats not my problem now is it. Where do you work?
Me: (told him where i work)

2 more officers walk over. One proceeds to look in my driverside door (i left it open when i got out to look in the trunk).

Me: Officer you have no right to search my car, do not go threw my stuff. That is a violation of my privacy.

The original officer steps in front of my in my face and screams "YOU DONT TELL MY PARTNER WHAT HE CAN AND CANT DO. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME? IF HE WANTS TO RIP YOUR INTERIOR APART HE WILL!."

Me: ok my lawyers will love that.
Officer: Ok you want to play it that way. (kicks my muffler 3 times) modified exhaust.... ticket. No seatbelt when you pulled in. Ticket. Car is illegaly lowered. Ticket. No reg. sticker on the plate. ticket.

Me: I have the sticker right here, il put it on.
Officer: too late, its not on their right now. your getting a ticket.
Me: ok can i please have my tickets so i can leave.
Officer: il be right back.

5 minutes later, 4 tickets later... i was allowed to leave.

This was total harrassment. I cant even count how many times he asked or accused me of being high. Accused me of being a drug dealer/runner and a car theif. Accused me of having beer in my trunk and illegally searched my car.

Do i have a case against them? What should i do. I was completly nice and said yes sir, no sir, no attitude up until he screamed in my face and his buddy searched my car.

That pissed me off reading it. I'm friends with MANY police officers and they'd never act like that. I would give a lawyer a call just to see what they think. It should be free to run that past a lawyer to confirm a case. Your problem is 3 police officers word against yours. Did they have dash camera's on in vehicles nearby? Any audio recording? I dunno, just idea's.

Also, a FWIW: NEVER question an officers authority. That'll get you exactly what you received. I know it sucks, but just be as nice as you possibly can. Don't give them reasons to write tickets.

Good luck.

Just another example of the ever eminent police state. It does'nt matter how nice you can be to some cops, it has become the very nature of their job to harrass. To protect and serve has become to terrorize and oppress. The only ticket that I think you wont be able to overturn is the seatbelt one. Fight them regardless.
You seem to have handled the situation well, but like I said, oftentimes it will do no good. It is a falacy to think it benefical to be overly nice to an officer as it implies your guilt and weakness. They are well aware that you do'nt want to be in the situation. One must be respectful towards the officer(s), but aware of their rights at all times. If an evasion of your rights is breached, you have the obligation to make it known in a respectful way.

Power to the people. Free Mumia. And oh yeah, PIGS!
