classic vehicle inspection

what are the requirements for a 1969 vehicle to pass inspection?

I realize the obvious... running, lights need to work, turn signals, brakes.

Emissions are out the door since its over 25 y/o.

What are the hard requirements, the "we can't budge, it needs this or it won't pass"?

Pretty much everything you listed. Rust is another obvious one. If you get antique plates you won't need it hehe

I plan on putting more than 1000 miles a year on this vehicle... so no antique plates...

Rust is not bad on this truck, though there are places that need to be taken care of before it becomes a problem

I think as long as it's not large holes or structural i.e. the frame it should be fine.

should be fine. there is no rust through on the frame. There is a patched hole in one rear fender, and a hole in the other rear fender. Neither of which affect the vehicle's stability at all.

There is also a smallish hole in the cab behind the seat that really isn't that bad.

Other than those areas there is no real rust to speak of. Body panels are straight, engine runs strong (though smokes a little on start up, but that could be because of the lack of mufflers and catalytic converters...) But the vehicle is emissions exempt so...

Is the hole behind the seat in the floor? If so you may need to patch that.

yeah, its in the floor. Its nothing serious right now. And I def will have it patched regardless.

I'm going to tell the inspection guy that I basically need this thing to pass so I can drive it to the shop and back.

Let me know how the inspection goes for you. I have to get my 66 inspected later on this year.

safety inspection is the same on every vehicle. if it was there from the factory, and its safety related, it needs to be there to pass. on the rust topic, i never really inspected too many old cars, but as a rule of thumb if you can catch clothing on any of the rust on the vehicle, or if there are obvious holes in the frame or body it would fail. but on a 69, if it were me inspecting it, as long as the suspension, tires, glass, lights, etc are all good, id give it a sticker.
