Oil smell from EJ20

My 04 WRX EJ20 has had what I think is oil blow-by for some time. I think it is related to the turbo from what I have read but some insight would be helpfull.

I am running an FP18G at 17 PSI and the performance is great so I do not think it is wear. Would an oil catch can correct some of this issue or should I just live with the smell?

If you smell oil burning, then oil must be burning somewhere. Oil burning is not something to live with, it's a major issue. First, check for leaks. If no leaks, then look into your engine's health.

The smell is not burning oil, like it would smell if dripping on an exhaust pipe, but more like blow-by. It has done it since I upgraded the turbo. I read somewhere that it was normal for cars running high boost to have additional blow-by. I have had no performance issues and no fouling plugs.

Just curious if anyone else running 15 psi plus on their EJ20's notice the same thing?

I would check for a blown seal on the turbo....but you still might wanna run your finger in the tailpipe.

20psi on an EJ20. Blow by smell is pretty normal. Get a catch can and it should die down a bit :D

When oil drip onto a hot exhaust pipe, it burns. That's what the smell is. I ran 22 PSI in my WRX with no smell, and I run 24 in my RS, also with no smell.
