Key Cutting?

Buddy of mine lost the key to his trunk and asked me if its possible to get a key made for it. I have no idea if thats possible. What would somebody do in this situation? im sure its somewhat common..

yeah if you take the lock to a locksmith they should be able to do it. I dissasembled a lock once and brought it to a good locksmith. Since it was apart he was able to see the slides and make a key for it.

There are certain locksmiths that will come to you to make a key as well.

you probably have to get one to come to you in this case. If he cant open the trunk, it's kinda hard to dismantle the lock to take to a locksmith. Unless its a newer car with trunk release button, in which case a trunk key is pointless. I've never once opened my trunk with a key. lol

If the car isn't a million years old he should be able to go to the dealer and get the key code for it and cut him a key from that.

Definately depends on the car and type of key. I had to get a key cut for my 02 Subaru... cost me 8 bucks at the dealership... however my key does not have any 'security' built into it. I think for those types of keys its anywhere from 25, 50, 75 bucks depending on brand of car.
