documentary on roleplayers...

on IFC on Comcast...

best quote from a chick ever...

"I'm 28 and I live in my parents basement... before I had Tristen I was a stripper for two years..."

this is about a LARP down in baltimore where people dress up in armor and fight on soccer fields...

hilarious... "i'm a stay at home dad..."

it is hilarious... some of the stuff they say "out of character" is just.. really... cliche... very very close to the stereotypes...

Let me say this, back in the day, say about 20 years ago, Darkon was first and formost FUN. Yes it was crazy, yes we looked funny, and sometimes even spoke funny. We didn't take ourselves too seriously though. There was a good amount of cameraderie and cooperation. Of course there were folks who took it all too seriously, but what group doesn't have those people. Back then it was a game, a wargame even. There was enough role-play to be fun, but the whole point was to bash the crap out of each other for the day or the weekend. There is something viceral and exciting about taking out the enemy in an unscripted fight with swords, daggers, axes, etc. It was not quite really dangerous, but people got hurt on occasion (I sprained my wrist and almost dislocated my elbow in two separate incidents).

Everyone should try out something like this at some point in thier lives.

I saw this back in my freshman year of college.

unfortunately I think this documentary only showed the stereotypical roleplayers... they painted the masses as losers working at wal-mart, a 28 y/o ex stripper living in her parents basement, and college student with no self confidence who keeps mentioning not being able to talk to girls... etc...

I have nothing wrong with Darkon, I can see and appreciate how it could be fun. I can appreciate the planning and all that. But the documentary was hilarious in the way they portrayed the people.

Though, I did find the guy on myspace that was running the one kingdom... and I was very tempted to tell him his guys got their ass whooped after he stirred the pot lol

i know a dude that does something like this... funny thing is he's not a nerd, he's actually not someone most people would mess with. I always wondered what all the battle talk was about...this shyt is weird though.
