Best chip/BIOS out there for the old Xbox units..... I say use that. Easiest to install/config, and its nice to use FTP clients to move the files around

It's worth doing. There are a ton of things you can do with a moded xbox.
It's a little tricky, but you can also "soft-mod" it. That's the way I did mine. Basically you buy an "Action replay" kit that comes with a USB cord & memory card and one of 2 games (I think the one I used was a James Bond game) and you load a hacked saved game. The hacked saved game enacts an exploit and then you run an installer disc with the dashboard & features you want. Once that is done you can FTP any files from your PC onto the xbox. I only have XBMC and a few Genesis games on mine, but you can load it up with tons of stuff.

xecuter were good ones. just read on forums and see what everyone was last doing. foundmy.com is usually a good purchase site. you dont need a bigger hard drive, you can just load the emulators on the factory one and run the roms from disks that you burn. its really not that hard.

I have the xecuter X3 in mine and a 250gb hdd. It's awesome! It's full of xbox games (downloaded online), ROMS, and it's also my media center on my TV for downloading movies and TV!

I'm way behind the times on this but i'm looking to have a xbox set up as an emulator for old school new/genesis/snes/neo geo/etc. Can any body give me so input on what i need to do other than ordering a mod chip, which seems to be a bit difficult these days, and getting a larger hd that i set up to work in the xbox? Can any one point me to forums that'll help or something of the sort? I've been looking but i haven't found anything to really help me yet.

Back when I did it to my Xbox the site xbox-scene.com was the place for info. I have a Xenium chip and a 300gb drive in mine. Still use it occasionally.

softmods ftw. i used the unleashx exploit through splinter cell.
between that and a couple other computer softwares i have... i have a 500gb hdd running xbmc in an xbox with no modchip. If you have an IDE hard drive(uses ribbon cables), you can send me your xbox and the hard drive and i'll do the mod. You will still have EVERYTHING your hard drive had before the mod(game save wise) but have extra space and the benefit of a modded console. They just came out with a new version of XBMC like a week and a half ago. pm for more info if you're interested
