1st time Turbo kit purchase

Where should i be looking , i have 3g saved. So not looking to spend much more , and looking for a full kit for a : 2000 2.2L cavalier (non z24) 5-speed.

I was looking at turbo-kits.com , seemed pretty decent.

Also is there any local places (philly area) that will install , and dyno?

Thanks , Jb

^ That's all well and good for a Honda, but not for a Cavi.

Read what I wrote in the Off topic thread.

we (good vibrations) have done a handfull of turbo kit installs (scions, honda/acuras, DSMs, etc. etc.) and could do it for a reasonable price if its a decent straightforward kit (we did a RIPP supercharger on lancer that was an absolute abortion of a kit that required a ton of modifications)

If you decide to get exerything on your own, get a cheapy ebay manifold, and have the sucker checked for leaks, as well as getting bracing added to it.

Beware of Ebay and turbos. There are companies selling turbos that they claim are Garrett, but they are actually Chinese knockoffs (OBX). Theses turbos have been known to be pieces of crap.

I'm not saying that's what happened to you (since it sounds like you purcahsed a used turbo), it's just some general information. Sometimes it's tempting to buy a $490 "GT28RS" from Ebay when you are looking at spending twice that on a new one from Garrett.

LOL... Yeah I picked up a used holset hx40 (see avatar) for under 150 bucks. I usually look for used parts and I've read enough about ebay items...They really seem hit or miss these days.

Honestly even if you have 3g's to spend i would piece together a kit...

1. You will be able to get better parts for less cost
2. You can get the proper parts for your goal and not have to pay for parts you don't want that are in a certain kit
3. You will need to do the research to understand what you are actually putting on your car and how it works (This is the most important thing!)
4. Most kits don't allow to much room for upgrades because they lack proper fuel management (most important part of a turbo setup!)
5. After you do the research and understand everything you will more then likely be able to install the kit by yourself...there are plenty of people here that would be willing to help...I just need a case of beer ;) Shouldn't take more then an afternoon to install...

Good luck, i've built 2 different turbo kits from scratch for myself and I wouldn't do it any other way...probably spent about $1200 on my latest kit and it should be able to make 300hp...and to make more it wouldn't take to much $$ for the upgrade...

id say if this is your only car to put it towards some type of project. preferably a car that came turbo, its just easier to mod and more info out there. this way you always have a dd if the fun car is down.
