Anyone ever ship a shortblock?

I just sold my shortblock the other day, but the guy that bought it lives in VA Beach, so I need to ship it. I've shipped many things before, buying, selling and trading, but nothing ever really heavy like this. Anyone have any experience with this? Should I crate it? Can I send it UPS ... will there be extra charges I need to be aware of? Any tips are appreciated ....

the block is still assembled right? (crank, rods, pistons)
if so i would build a 2x4 foundation to house the block... including the walls...
bolt up the block to it somehow... then wrap and ship

You'll probably have to put it on a pallet.
I've never shipped a motor, but I've bought one and that came via freight (18 wheeler).

Actually, it's completely gutted. It's just the block and the bedplate. I completely disassembled it. But I bet it still weighs somewhere between 50-75 pounds. I figured I was going to have build a crate. I can't believe it will be that much to ship ...

Ha! My 50-75 estimate was way off! The gutted short block itself weighs in at a whopping 100lbs on the nose. I built a crate for it today and got it all snugged in. The whole thing weighs about 110-125lbs now. I guess I got to quote on this thing now. 10 bucks says my buyer backs out ....
