Vista Issue, driving me crazy! Acer 3680 laptop

I just bought a wireless router for my home network, but now my laptop is giving me even more issues than usual...

Here is a complete rundown of what is going on with it and some specs on my system:

. Always plugged in. I've done most Acer updates and window updates that say they need to be downloaded and installed.

Ever since I bought this computer, I had SO many issues with it.

At first e-data security would turn-on at startup and cause my computer not to start up for over 20 minutes from turning it on.

I disabled that as a startup problem, and soon after, all sound on the computer stopped working. Finally, one day when opening the sound properties in the control panel, a window popped up saying that an acer installed program was interfering with windows sound controller. I attempted to disable the acer one, and I think it worked, since now I have sound.

The latest issue is with the network/sharing/internet. For the last month, when I click on the internet sharing in the control panel, it takes the computer (literally) 10-15 minutes to open the window, and then if I click anywhere on that window that does open, it does nothing. THat window is frozen. Also for the last month, when I right click on the network/sharing icon on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, it will take the computer from 5-10 minutes just to see the pop-up window that lets you select to connect to the internet. I found that it will only open the "choose a connection" window if you click on it twice, which opens a blank window, which fills itself in after sitting, frozen on the desktop for about 10 minutes. I also noticed that if I click anything else in the pop-up menu at the taskbar, it won't open at all.

In the last few days, I've had more trouble than usual with this, and I actually had an error pop-up saying the edatasecurity must be deleted and reinstalled (while I was trying to get into the networking control panel). Since I always had trouble with the program, I went through the control panel, and deleted the program. I was hopeful that it would fix something, but it made no difference.

Right now I'm in the process of backing up everything I have to disks and to another computer since I think the only way to possibly get this computer to work properly is to reboot the system and delete everything.

If anyone has some input as to what I can do, or how exactly to reinstall the system again, that would be appreciated.

If ANYONE is the area pottstown/kutztown/Pennsburg/Boyertown/Collegeville would be willing to give me a hand with this who has some solid knowledge of how to work on VISTA systems, I would greatly appreciate that. I'm VERY broke right now, though I'm working, (just started after not working for over a year and finishing college back in May) and wish I had the money to get this computer fixed, but I really don't have the money to take it to a shop. I could help with car work as a "swap" or can grab you a 6 pack for your time.

I will drive to you if you're willing to give me a hand or any e-advice would be GREAT. THanks a lot!

im not really but it sounds like you might have some sort of virus. either that or you have a ****load of files somewhere that are severely slowing down your computer. have you tried doing a system restore back as far as you can? or at least to a point that worked normally? also, you could try booting in safe mode to see if that helps any.

I scanned my computer with multiple different anti-virus softwares, and nothing helped.

When it takes ten minutes for things to load, I often watch the system performance to see if the processor or memory is maxed, but it never is. VERY rarely does it ever get pegged to 100%.

I've gone through and deleted just about every program that didn't come on the computer, and I don't really have any programs such as video/photo editing, or even a word processor. I really don't have much on the computer other than a few gigs of travel/car pictures. Only thing I've ever done with the computer is surf the internet. And for it being only 6 months old, the thing sucks.

I even added a gig of memory to it when I got it, just to make sure it would work smoothly. THat lasted for about a month.

I was thinking of doing a restore, but it hasnt been normal for a long time, and the restore only goes back a few updates... So I think it would be pretty much useless. Though I might try it since I have no idea what else might help minus wiping the system clean.

Did you buy your comp new? I know my laptop came with a restore disc to put it back to the way it was from when I bought it. I've used it once already, probably a 2nd time soon enough. Damn Windows.

Yeah, I know I have the disk somewhere.

Will it erase my personal files too if I do that?

yea if you use the restore disc you'll lose everything. if you have a flash drive you could but them on there or make a few backup discs of what you need.

Yeah, I should probably just go buy a blank DVD or two. My jumpdrive is only a 512, i have no blank CDs, and my ipod is only a gig..

I'll probably go get some DVDs and do a restore tomorrow. Hopefully this bitch will finally work smooth after that.

Try just re-doing it.

Setup some good security when you get it back up and running.

I wish I was closer...I'd have no problem helping you out.

Best of luck man.

Gah blah. Don't reformat Windows yet. I'm assuming the Acer didn't come with Vista did it? Also, all these problems are most likely stemming from the E-data Security. You need to get that totally out of your system.

If the Acer didn't come with it, what are the specs on the system?

if he bought it after vista was released then it came with it, Acer puts vista on EVERYTHING. most of there laptops still say they have XP but arrive with vista home premium.

like GT and I said, get rid of the acer e-trash and you should be golden, i didn't look up the specs of your laptop but with vista you really need a gig of ram to get everything out of it.

Well the specs I saw said Celeron 1.6mhz. That's quite low to have Vista preinstalled on it. But who knows lol.

Vista + 1.**ghz + 512-1gig ddr = Acer failing

No seriously you can't update the processor so you kinda have to max out what ever you can upgrade to get anything good out of Vista.
