held deciding what car to get

hey... i posted a similar thread to this a while ago but it didn't really help and now i have new candidates so here's the list of choices so far:
-mr2(1991ish)
-mkIII supra (preferably 89' and newer)
-gc8 impreza 2.5 rs
-fc3s s5 rx-7
tell me what you think of those choices or a similar car. I want to get into some drifting but if i go the subie route i might try a little rally out. also has to be a good dd. and btw this is my first car

Hey if you are looking for a supra my uncle is selling his. PM me and I will give you his number.

Edit:
Some details that I know - It's white, i think it has intake and exhaust, he has been dding it for a while, runs great, he said it would make a great drift starter. I'm not sure of the miles or exact year, i think its a 91. Like I said, shoot me a PM.

Awesome car, handles great, not awesome power, but thats nothing that cant be fixed. Probably really neutral, I dont know how it would drift, but I'm sure it can be done.

Quote:

If your gonna drift it, an awesome car. If your gonna jump on the Supra bandwagon and build a 1000hp car that would get clowned by a miata on a track, dont waste your time.

Awesome car. Dont know a lot more than that.

FC's are pimp. Definitly driftable, and easily pimpable. lol

mr2s arent for beginners. snap oversteer. i drove one ONCE and u really gotta be concentrating to keep from spinning out. trying to keep the front end in front is not fun for me.

for the dd aspect id say get the sube. for drifting id say get the supra. as a rotary maniac id say DONT get the FC.

u have two choices, drift get supra, rally and great dd get subie

I guess i can speak on the topic since i just got my first car- the Mustang i own. I like all of your options, but i would pick something you can try a little bit of everything out in. I would say the subie would be the most expensive to buy out of the whole group, and the least versatile when it comes to trying drifting, autox, drag, etc. I'm looking to get rid of the mustang soon and get something that i can try all the stuff i have loved for so long. The mr2 would be more for the autox scene since drifting is not ideal in it. The supra and Rx7 are probably the two most versatile for all different types of racing, but both have their respective reliability issues, the mazda being rotary and the supras blowing head gaskets frequently. Personally i would narrow your selection down to maybe 3 and whatever comes up first of those 3 that suits you best, go for it. Then you'll be happy when you get the car, and you'll find the one that suits you best condition, option, and mod wise.

What about a 240sx? Seems to be a popular choice and it wouldn't make a bad drift/daily driver. You could swap in a number of different motors or just boost the Ka. They can be found for pretty cheap and they are fun to drive. Out of your other choices, Mr2 would make a good track car givin the 50/50 weight ratio. Supras can make good power for not alot of money, but you will probably want to upgrade the head gasket and put in some head studs. Impreza is a good car, would make a good daily being that its AWD and they seem to be fairly reliable. A WRX or STi swap into one of them would make a sick car that you could track or just drive around. Don't know much about the RX-7's but I know they're not the most reliable thing on 4 wheels. If you were to get one it would probably just turn into a dedicated track car cause you would be replacing apex seals and what not. I'd say the RX would be the worst out of the group as something to drive everyday. Lots of good knowledge around, you just gotta look. Try checking out some car specific forums and stuff and see what you like. Good luck

your username is nissan4life yet you have no nissans listed wtfbbqsauce mate? lol. I'm biased so I agree with cutlass, 240sx. I have owned one, and I absolutely loved everything about it. I'm on my second one now and can't wait to get it on the road. Even in stock trim they can be very fun. If you do go that route, I suggest getting a kouki s13 (91-93) for the simple fact that they have the DOHC, Unless you plan on swapping. Dont get me wrong, those little single slammers can make some decent numbers, but you really gotta work with it. But yea, a stock 240 can do everything you listed. Throw a VLSD in there and your good for drifting, drag racing, auto x, and DD, just please dont rally it haha.

With this being your first car, your probably going to get raped with insurance with anything on your list. On that list, i'd probably pick a non turbo mr2 or a 240sx.

I actually agree with these guys, 240s are very easy to drift, cheap for when you break something or drift into another car, and have plenty of potential both based on looks and power.

Put some money aside or start saving now for some spring HPDE so you can put the car to good use too!

Personally,I would go with a 240sx. im in the same boat your in. first car ,daily driver,- to get me from school and my parttime job-. I have done a tremendous ammount of reacherch and I think that the 240sx is great. The 240sx is a great dd being a nissan you get the good gas milage, the unlimited amount of potential. you can mod the hell out of it. so many choices for this car. hatch, coupe,ca,ka-t,sr,rb. Even saw one on you-tube with a ls1. You can't go wrong with this car. And I just cant wait until I get mine.

ls1 swapped 240 = faster then a c6 vette and lighter then a stock 240. Can't beat that.

We will be selling a 240sx Hb soon with an RB20 with upgraded turbo, metal head gasket, arp studs, and many other goodies, Etc. It will make nice power and be very reliable. Something to think about.

[QUOTE=Cutlass372;740486]What about a 240sx? QUOTE]
almost all my friends either have a 240 or want one... i'd hate having the same car as all my friends(red24O has an s14, speedfreak wants an s13, and one of my other friends wants an s13) they are pretty sick cars once they have work done... idk y my name is nissan4life i think when i first joined this site i wanted a 300zx or s14 or something.

The subaru-
probably the best dd as previously stated, one of the most expensive of the four as well. i think if i didn't rally i would get bored of it one of my friends (trex616) has wrx #18 he gives me a ride home from schoool everyday and it's fun as hell but one of my other friends has a 500+ hp 05' wrx with ra gears and just about every other part you can get and he says he is getting bored of it and he wants to get eiter a mkIV supra or a nova and throw a big block in it.

The rx-7-
well first off nopstns would hate me...haha, jk... good drift car, decent prices, pretty rare, all around awesome cars but not the best dd

the mkIII-
ok drift car, i read on supramania that you do some weight reduction and it makes it a good drift car, also good in a straight line if i did a 1jz swap down the road (has anyone on here done a 1jz swap to a mkIII, does it still get bhg? how reliable, etc.), also decent prices

mr2-
haven't done much research on these yet, it's the only one i haven't really looked up alot yet, i saw a 350hp one with a t67 and figured there cool cars and in my price range and a 3sgte swap would be very nice. thats suprising that they r really hard to drive i figured with close to 50/50 weight distribution they would grip to the road insanely.

so all the cars have a couple pros and cons and i'm just as undecided as ever.

The EJ251s will run well for a long time. Whenever I want to drive the car with a little bit of vigor there has never been a time where it hasn't complied happily.
