Ask yourself this.

If in the event he is robbed again at gunpoint will you pull the trigger?

If no, then what's the point in buying one. You're better off on your hands and knees gun free than with an empty gun in your hands.

If yes, then I would strongly suggest not having one. That's just what you need to do, shoot someone and get pulled for murder because someone was trying to rob you. Stranger things have happened, that's for damn sure.

I have well over a dozen rifles/shotguns and a few handguns that my family owns and I shoot regularly. I can tell you without a doubt the last place I would go if I was being robbed was to the gun cabinet, I know I wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger.

Why not buy a good home security system with a silent alarm?

I agree with Aaron. Unless youre prepared to take another human life- something that you would have to live with for the rest of your life, then you shouldnt have a gun. At least not for protection. Its much easier to let a theif take what they want and catch them later. (or buy your **** back on ebay )

You should have rephrased it by saying can i ask what any 18 year old needs a gun for. i could understand why you would in philly, but the yardley area? the biggest thing a person needed a gun for was an officer killing a deer that was hit by a car, and it was put out of its misery.

Yes, you can buy a pistol grip shotgun in PA at age 18, so long as the barrel is over 18.5" and the overall length is 26" or greater.

The shotgun that you are interested in falls under being LEGAL, and you are legally entitled to purchase that shotgun at 18 years old.

I advise you to learn basic safety rules, take a couple of self defense and safety training classes, and practice with the gun in which you intend to protect yourself and your family from savage criminals.

Also, keep in mind that bad things NEVER happen to good people, and when robbers break in to houses, they NEVER shoot, harm, or otherwise kill the homeowner and occupants.

EDIT: I want to be clear that I don't know NJ's state law (but I'm pretty sure that you can't have a pistol grip shotgun, not positive though), or any of the surrounding states. If someone in a different state is reading what I typed, be sure to check your state law.

Home/self protection, hunting/sporting, plinking/target shooting, collection/hobby.

Can I ask what you need a mustang for?

^ agreed. i have a mossberg 500 with a pistol grip and a few other goodies, its a cheap shottie and great to keep under the bed "just in case" as far as the "if you have a gun be sure your ready to shoot" question, i semi agree, when someones looking down the barrell of a 12ga pump shotgun they might think quickly about leaving FAST, but if it comes to it yes, you would have to be able to shoot them... as long as their in your house its totally legit, better them than you right...

I would gladly be TRIED for murder, hell, even sentenced for murder, before I allowed a ruthless POS to rape, harm, or kill any member of my family.

That's your choice. But read above.

I can disable just about any home security system without ever stepping foot in a house. That point aside, a home security doesn't ensure that police will arrive in the matter of seconds that it takes for a life to be taken. In fact, if you look at the average response time for most area's, well, you get the point. There's a site out there that lists some of them though, but if I remember correctly, suburban area's average response time is about 5 minutes.

As stated, bad things NEVER happen to good people, especially in nice area's. I completely agree. That would just be ridiculous if that happened!

Oh, believe me, if some ****ed up person came into my house and threatened my family their head would be my new wallpaper.

However, I've been around guns and weapons my entire life. I respect them and know first hand what they are capable of. I hunt avidly and have done my fair share of killing living things. I personally don't think that an 18 year old should go out and buy a gun just for the sole purpose of having it around if someone breaks in again.

Not to mention, all of my weapons are held locked in a gun cabinet with the ammo stored in a seperate area. Realistically now, do you think that I'd have time to run upstairs, unlock the cabinet, take out the gun, unlock the ammo, load the gun, and then somehow come back downstairs in a timely manner? Hells no, it just isn't a realistic defense unless you have the gun on your person at all times.

Most break ins happen at night, while you are in bed. Keep a loaded gun next to you, and you don't have to worry about running around the house . And although I keep a couple loaded mags for each of my rifles (the ar pistol is locked and loaded (just cause???), as well as my hk (sleep next to it), glock (carry gun during the day), and benelli (it's too big to manuever around the house, but I still keep it loaded)), I can make it from my family room to where my guns are locked up, unlock everything, and have at least one of the guns locked and loaded within 20 seconds.

The point is, if you have a chance to protect yourself and/or your family, it's better to take that chance. So while it's not IDEAL, it IS certainly realistic.
