Yea and I think he was a better closer, and I also think he wanted to stay in the pen. We'll see, obviously.

I think Lidge is going to be in set up, and have romero/gordon as your 7th inning guy.

General manager Pat Gillick announced that Brad Lidge would become the Phillies' closer in 2008 and that Brett Myers would move back to the starting rotation. The Phillies initially talked to the Astros about acquiring reliever Chad Qualls. In recent days, the talks shifted to Lidge, a hard-throwing righthander known for having a devastating slider when he is on top of his game. Myers liked closing and wanted to continue in the role in 2008. Phillies management liked him in that role and often said it wanted to keep him there. But after weighing what was available in this off-season's weak starting-pitching market, the Phils decided it was best to pursue a closer and move Myers back to the rotation.

Gotta get rid of Wes Helms. Biggest waste of money last season. The Phillies got good back up players too like Nunez, Werth, Dobbs etc. I think they need a decent third basemen. If they had the money I'd say AROD.

He's a waste, and so is Eaton. I won't have faith in Lidge until the All Star break.

iguchi should play third. he puts up good numbers off the bench and is pretty clutch.

kev, i agree with getting arod but dumb philly would never shell out money like that. now if i was gm i would.

I guess I agree with that... I didn't think Brett was a strong closer anyways... but still Lidge isn't a 95+ mph closer. In these days, you need that. Lightning fastball, and a devasting slider... makes a closer. From what I heard.. Lidge only throws from 86-89....?

I would love AROD but they can't afford him with having to give Howard a big contract this year. Rowand if they keep him is going to want some Moola too so we will see,but AROD in Philly more then most likely will not happen.
