long ago when i was a young healthy college student my best flat bench was 225 and i weighed 175 lbs, 6' tall. now i weigh like 165 and i probably cant lift 150. blahhh i need to get back to the gym.

5'9", 175, 315#'s, 2 lift max (we ARE talking about a barbell bench flat/free weight, right? if it's one of those stupid machines, who the hell cares). I just tried it today, didn't go higher because I had no spot. Otherwise, I think "max weights" are stupid.

narrow grip is the same as wide grip for me also, some people excel at one or the other. Also, not that it matters much, but I tore my pec all of the way back in high school, a little over 4 years ago trying for max bench and just started doing bench again 4 months ago. It's really not worth it to strain yourself trying for max!!

back in the day of high school i was 280 6', and was doing 350 with bar/free weights. Max was 390.

Used to be a monster back in the day, lol. Now ill be lucky to hit 300 on my max. I can definitely do 250 no problem though but im by far out of shape.

Meant to add- only reason i was ever that big wwas because of my dad pushing me far past my limits. He's the type you'll never be #1 unless you push beyond your limitations. Work for the Gold...the whole be all you can be type. So yeah please note: My dad is a asshole. I didn't even like playing football i did because i had too lol

at the time i didnt work out, still really dont but i weight around 138 5'10 and did i think 160 or 165. First started at like 140 and then kept doing 1 rep until i couldnt anymore. increases of 5.

that seems kinda low for incline if your flat is that high... i can usually do 140 dumbbell and 185 barbell

i guess dumbbells are awkward though

used to be able to do three sets of ten reps of 185 free weights two decades ago...
im slowly gettin back my strength... im up to three sets of 10 reps with 115...
might be higher if the schedule only isolated the press for the day...

Benching is for HS ego competitions though, theres so much other stuff equally or more important, chest is my weakest muscle group.
