Got owned by Construction Workers

Every morning I would take Cottman ave to go to school and I would always see the construction workers fixing the road where the chevy dealership used to be.....at night when I'm coming home from school they would put these metal panels on the ground so the gap strip the dug up would be covered. Tonight it seems they forgot to put the metal panels and my carbon fiber lip went bye bye.

I went out 15 minutes ago to measure this gap on the road so i can take pictures and go to PennDOT tomorrow to complain....it's 58 1/2 inches wide 3 1/2 inches deep.

So awesome how my bumper is being pushed up a little when taking this pic

Side skirt crack

That sucks, but don't think they will pay for any damages to your vehicle especially since you effectively lowered the ground clearence..

I would think that they would pay since they had not covered back up the location that they were working at. That's a big enough trench, that I would expect someone to have the possibility of blowing out a tire or some sort of suspension damage.

Good luck

I'm not doubting any of it, but do you honestly think they cut people slack??They will ask what the black thing is hanging off the front of your bumper?? Dosen't hurt to try though

Yes, they do. Something VERY similar (almost exact) happened to me. PECO was working on a road digging up gas lines/replacing them whatever. They forgot to put up those metal panels on a two lane road. Meaning ongoing traffic and oncoming. I hit one of their dips going 20mph (could not swerve into the other lane with opposing traffic speeding by) and my front two outer tie rods cracked from bottoming out causing my wheels to go inward and I slid a good 15-20 feet. On top of that, my radiator support became bent causing the entire front frame of car to be misaligned, and cracking my front bumper completely.

I called the police got a written statement from them with pictures, got written statements from local neighbors about how PECO has not repaired the road for months and went on to write PECO a letter to tell them what happened. I sent them pictures, copies of the police report and written statements from the local neighborhood, and the bill to repair my car. They cut me a check within two weeks for all the damage (Over $3k in repairs). The representative for PECO told me over the phone companies and townships have money in the budget for "mistakes" like this. It's cheaper to cut someone a check then to pay a lawyer for court costs on top of verbal slander if people were to go to the public/news stations about their mistake.

If you really want to go after them for there carelessness you really have to be pushy and on top of things.

That does suck, and good luck fighting it.

I've personally been quite lucky to never have such a problem driving my slammed Hondas from PA to NC to the middle of now-where in PA....I'm just very lucky I suppose.

lets see you put something on your car that wasn't stock and now you have less ground clearence and you expect someone to pay you. Good Luck! I should bill penndot for every time my headers scrape.

Even with THAT trench??? You could fight the nazis from that trench. That thing is huge. I would defiantly fight it if I were you. What have you got to loose?
