Yes. We were at Core Creek park yesterday, then they went to two parking garages.

What program are you using to generate your HDR image? Did you convert a single Raw image, or did you take multiple exposures with your camera? What kind of camera did you use? It looks like you took multiple exposures with your camera and the camera might have moved a little while you were taking them. The reason I say that is because of the black line that goes along the treeline.
If your camera can shoot in RAW then you can take that single RAW file and create multiple exposures from that. I'll usually make 5 images from a single Raw file in 1 stop increments. Then i'll put them through Photomatrix to generate a HDR image. This isn't really the proper way to do it, but a good thing about doing it this way, you don't need a tripod and you don't have to worry about moving objects. Or, if you have a camera that does exposure bracketing, you can set your camera up on a tripod and take multiple pictures at different exposures. I'll usually set up the exposure bracketing at +/- 1 f/stop, then change it to +/- 2 f/stops. So in total i'll have 5 different exposed pictures (you'll really have 6 images at this point, but two images will be exposed the same. Just be on the lookout for moving objects. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tone_mapping HDR and Tone mapping are two different things. Most people think that tone mapping is HDR. Also don't use full strength of anything, it makes it look cheap and fake.

we were using a D80, and we were doing multiple exposure.
I read that you should take the photos in RAW and then convert them to PSD or TIFF files and then use the Merge to HDR tool in CS2. Thas what I did, I understand how to do that, what I'm having trouble with is the editing after the files have been merged to make the photo look like the second photo that i posted.

At least you know about shooting in raw and then opening then in CS2 and merging them to an HDR file. Also you're going to need a program that can Tone map the image. I believe that is what the guy did to the Subaru wagon above. I hardly recall that thread on Nasioc. Most people use "photomatrix" to make a tone mapped image. You can google it and dl a trial of it. But it leaves watermarks all over the image. I have the plug in for CS2, that they made I believe but I can't remember where I got it from. Here is an Image I tested out in this new program I found. Single image from the .nef Raw file. Think the program calls this mode or style "ultra contrast" Its sort of the style of the bug eye wagon. There is no editing of the file after the conversion. And the second image is the image right from the camera also. Just a exposure tweak. Both have different crop sizes though. ![]()

Carbon, Read my thread, and the links,(if you haven't already) it explains a lot, there are a lot of dumbd'd down explanations out there, that aren't exactly true. I use photomatix, I also use that to covert my .RAW to .HDR then I tone map it. this is where you adjust the settings and amounts. Also turn any auto setting off, if you are going to do multiple exposures. Your "goal" image... well you definitely aim high.
![]() I've actually been messing around with highlights/shadows and other standard adjustments, on multiple layers and feel that i can achieve similar results as tone mapping. Just much more time consuming. |
