$575 for a/c condenser and labor good for a 04 sti?

My A/C condenser went out due to a rock flying thru it... the dealer has quoted $575 which of course is a lot and but par for the course of a dealer.

1) is that price far from reasonable?
2) has anyone had to have theirs replaced before in their impreza and know of a better/reasonable place?

I appreciate your comments guys!

For parts and labor that actually isnt to bad. Considering you need to clear the A/C system which takes alittle time, remove and replace the condenser, then vac, pressure test, then fill the A/C again.

It's more expensive than most, but it's a newer car and your quote was from the dealer. I'm willing to bet you could save a couple hundred bucks taking it to someone who ONLY does A/C

I agree $575 DONE, is a good price. You could probably save about $225 (just a guess) if you do it yourself. I have the manfold to charge the lines, but I don't have the vacuum to evac it, but this could be done even at a Jiffy Lube for under $100.

My advice: If you just want all the work to be covered and ~$225 will buy you piece of mind, then just bite the bullet on this one.

An OEM condensor is $329.xx and around 1.4 hours of install time.

Add in another 1.8 hours to evac and recharge all at 44/hour and your at $503.00

To have a dealer do it for $575 is an alright deal.

sounds like for quicker and easier thats the right way to go.

as for the slower but cheaper route i might be able to help with that... if you want i can see if i can find a used condenser for you that'll be probably dirt cheap, then you could either have subaru do the labor or i bet pete would be more than happy to get some work his way. after its all set up i've got a buddy at the dealership who will recharge your ac for cheap. i know cause i just did it.

thanks for the comments guys! AHmotor.com quoted me $515 so that is a good deal that the dealer is charging...

I'll roll with the dealer since they're ordering another part for me...

thanks again!

Colonial actually matched A&H's price (www.ahmotor.com) for $515! Can't beat that huh?
