Job Market still sucks....not so bored now....GETTING A PROMOTION....UPDATED 8/28

So yea I'm sittin at work, I want a new job I'm kinda bored with this one and its not fun. I know most of yall gonna say that its a job and not supposed to be fun but ya know what thats wrong. Theres plenty of people having fun while working. I like the people I work with I just dont wanna do the job anymore. I do make $12 an hour but I'd like to make more. I've been job huntin past few days and havent found anything. Lookin for some kind of video or audio job. Something that I can be creative and be doin something that I absolutely love doing. That or have my music take off and the label. Workin on makin my own beats and what not to sell and ish. I'd like to maybe try and sell some stuff online for some extra income to. I think once I get all that done I'll be happy. I've been out having great times with friends but then its just like blah. I keep seem to stay happy. I went to Florida on vacation had fun times but still was bumed most the time I was there. I even was lookin at jobs down there and thought about relocating but there wasnt any jobs down there it seemed either. Hopin my music video shoot will make me a little bit happier. It def is already goin to be a good time. Oh well what can ya do except keep tryin and lookin heh just had to get it out and see if it made me feel any better. not sure if it has yet though ha oh well thanks for readin if ya did

WTF? Why do people make such terrible hourly wages? I made $10 an hour at Best Buy and I didn't I'm not even in College yet. Maybe it's the difference between PA and NJ/NY. My supervisor at Best Buy graduated from a 2-year community college and was being paid $20 an hour. WTF!?

I'm not making fun of your wages or anything. I just think it's weird how PA wages differ from NJ and NY wages.

To what level are you educated? When you say that you're looking for a "video or audio" job, do you mean like a home theater type of job? You can probably work for Magnolia Home Theater at Best Buy. They make $15 an hour. And depending on what your education is, you might be able to work as a supervisor.

22 years old and $12 an hour is horrible. You're taking home, what, $280/week??? How about a trade job? What's your education? Without a good paying, steady job, you most likely won't have the coin to start up anything on your own.

Well I used to work for a best buy already as a tech bench person but left before they switched to Geek Squad. I have only graduated high school but I did complete the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in January. What sucks is with my bills is I could go for an internship cause its no money and my parents cant pay my bills. I was hopin for an overnight job but I fell into the place I am at now. I work for my best friends mom so its not to bad I just don't wanna get stuck here when I know it seems I'm not gonna see anymore then 12 an hour at all. I do get $50 bucks every time I sign a new lease which isn't to bad, I've had a few weeks that I would sign 3 or 4. Also when I said audio video I meant like production wise. I like to be part of a bigger picture and what not or be in charge. So yea

Thanks guys, every two weeks my checks have been about 750 but with a couple 900 checks due to bonuses and the over time I get sparingly. Also I live in PA and tryin to stay around here if possible. I know I unfortunately dont have a coin to flip and try and start something on my own but I'd still like to down the line.

The math that counts for the government taking your money??????? I suppose that it's more advanced math.

I said TAKE HOME, as in net pay. 11/hr taxed at 450 is gross, unless you are working under the table. If it's not taxed, then yea, you are netting 450 but otherwise you are only grossing 450. So, you have the math part down, but did you skip economics?? Before I just did a REAL ROUGH guess on what he brings home, subtract 22% of $12x40 and it's $750, plus if any benefits get taken out it brings it down to under $700, plus fuel to and from the job it brings it down to $600 or so. So his two week true bring home pay is at or under $300/week. See how I came up with a quick $280????

Anyway, he said his two week paycheck is $750 (remember that 22% figure ), so it looks like he doesn't have benefits. Another huge downside to where you are working BlackBullet.

Actually I get free benefits from here lol. There not bad but they are free so it is a bit of a perk. Another thing is this place has some crazy drama goin on people hate people and blah blah blah. I just don't wanna work here anymore maybe a diff company doin the same thing but hopefully the other company might be a little less crazy. I just need a job hopefully making a little more and I'd be more comfortable and whatnot

i make $12 an hour and after all is said and done i cash a $380 check at the end of each week. i only work +- 40 hrs a week. so the kid doesn't bring home a crap load of money big deal.. niether do i and a bet a lot of people on this forum don't either. if you want to spend many thousands and go to college and be one of the millions of extremely overqualified college grads scrounging around for a job with the pay they think they're 'owed', fine.. to the rest of us working normal jobs making decent pay, it works for now. there's plenty of time to advance in each career and make more as time goes on, just because he's 22 doesn't mean there's something wrong with him and the fact that he's making $12/hr.

edit: my pay is also after full health and dental benifits.

HEY MORON, he said he was looking for a higher paying job. (sorry about the moron, it's a line from a movie)
BTW, I'm 22 also without a college degree. I don't do so bad, neither do any of the other electricians/plumbers/even those damn carpenters that I know. Trade job owners make a pretty penny also ;) . I can think of about 20 local owners (electrical/plumbing/general contracting/HVAC) that make WELL over a $million/year. And I do mean well over.

But at any rate, $12/hour at 22 years old is HORRIBLE. It's not meant to be offensive, but it really isn't enough money to comfortably live on (at least where I live, as do most of us).

You don't particularly have to spend thousands of dollars and go to college to have a good job. I took a couple college courses or better yet maybe certification classes would be a better way to put it, and just devoted myself to a specfic trade, and I easily make more in ONE week then most of you make it 2 weeks. You have to be diligent in what you want to do. Doesn't mean you have to spend a boat load of money to do so.

no its def not bad specially with the bonuses its just i know I'm pretty much stuck at that level. It's been kinda made to seem I'm makin more then a few people. I dont know and really care its just again not much moving up room it seems and its not something I wanna do. I'm a hard worker I do whats told and I'm not an idiot I've helped with a few things here to put back in order. Seems I'm now kinda forgotten about at this apartment community in the middle of no where. Again this job market seems to suck I have been lookin and nothing as of yet just gonna keep my eye out.

Well how does that make sense? Unless you are leaving out that you work over time. Do the math.... 40hrs @ 11/hr = $440. So if you make $440 a week, before taxes, and have health insurance being deducted...how is it you come out with more money then you even make??

Ok then fine. But I was simple trying to make a point that you can't argue and tell someone they are wrong, when you leave out details like that.

I think everyone in here was referring to a regular 40hr work week when they stated a certain amount of money or pay. At least I was.

Word, get a gov/state job. I lub my job and I do nothing (literally nothing) all day M-F with every other Monday off! 24 years old, HS education, work ethics of Mayor Street on Iphone launch day and I'm a GS-9 ($47k salary).

Go gov/state, if you have half a brain you will move up the ladder quickly. The hardest part is getting into the federal/state system, after that its all bishes and cake.
