Rust, $3400 for repair? WTF?
![]() Right now I'm considering just throwing in a new engine instead and screwing the rust repair. Anyone know if its possible to get this done cheaper or any places I can go in the philly area? I was also consdering getting widebody fenders, but when I searched for them they were all "over fenders". Would "over fenders" get rid of this rust? I don't get what's the difference between those and normal fenders. here's some pictures: left side ![]() ![]() right side ![]() ![]() |

For overfenders you cut out a portion of the old rear quarter. So basically you would cut an arch almost to the gas filler cap and cover it with the overfender.

It would be a good distance to travel but the place I go to for body work is very reasonable. The name of the shop is Force One. They are located right outside Allentown, Pa. Their number is 610-266-6721. Ask to speak to Roger when you call, he is the owner. Tell him Damion sent you.

For them to weld in new quarters, that obviously means that they aren't easily removed. There's probably a good chance that they're brazed in to the c pillars and a lot of cutting and work to get them out. And again to get them in, because they would have to make sure they are utterly perfect or else a LOT of issues would arise. I saw some of those issues when my Firebird was stripped down. You could see the brazing lines very easily...it is a pain in the balls when you don't have quarter panels that unbolt.
$3400 seems a LITTLE high, but not totally unreasonable. That's a LOT of labor in that.

This gives you an idea on how much is cut out with overfenders.

I'd still say get it done properly. That's not addressing a rust issue very well.
Or, if you can find a shop that will do some shady work, you can get them to backweld you pieces for the well, but there's no saying that it will be as straight as a new quarter.

Umm they come 30mm, 50mm and 70mm out back. The 30mm you can push in to a point where you can get 20mm of gain. Either way you are looking at low offset wheels.

Fixing rust isnt cheap. Especially rear quarterpanels. Its probably cheaper to find a rust free shell with a blown motor and swap everything.

Your 1/4 panels replace the skin from the rear, the C-Pillar, and the B- pillar.
Yes, you could section it out and only replace around the wheel wells but thats not the proper way. Stock 1/4 panels are $438.20 each for your 95 240sx + shipping from http://www.nissanpartscheap.com/ . Then you would need to R&I 1/4 windows and rear window. Then the R&R the 1/4 panels and that can be a pain depending on the order that the rocker panel goes on... If it goes on after the 1/4 panel, a real "great" shop would remove the rocker panel also. Im sure the inner fender wells are rusting also so they will need proper attention. All the spot welds and time required for replacing 1/4 panels isnt cheap / fast. If I were you, I would just get 30mm over fenders and cut the fenders like suggested above if you plan on modding the car any. If you dont plan on doing that, either deal with the rust, get a shell and swap everything over, or sell the car. |

+1. Over fenders are a great option for you because they can cut out the rust, then cover and blend it easily. Plus you get not just a repair, but an upgrade. I would have them blend the over fenders so they look integral to your stock ones IIWY. Just make sure you get 4 of them because just rears would probably look pretty weird. It does suck though having to eventually get new rims and tires though to fill them out once they are done.

i have to imagine finding a used 240 cutting the fenders off and welding them in would be easiest.

Sounds easy... but it isnt. A unibody vehicle depends on its entire shell for structural integrity... you mess with it, it can completely change the crash chacteristics and stabilility of the car overall.
