wax & wash from start to finish

hey basically i am new at this whole car thing. i just recently got an 07 gti. and i want to start keeping up with the exterior and washing it alot. i live in a park area so theres bird **** all of the time all over my car and my car is black. so basically i was hoping you could tell me what exactly i need to purchase to wash my car even what kind of towels and everything. money isnt really a problem but deals are always nice. my boyfriend drew really recommended you and said your work is amazing. since i am going to be waxing by hand he said i dont need a porter cable? or something like that. hope you can help!
