lol...i'm glad my car was painted at Maaco

Long story short: I went to remove the fender badges to put on the Holden repeaters, and there was an outline/impression of the fender badge. Whoever put the hood on, may it be for personal preference or not, had it repainted by a schmuck who decided taping the emblems over was better than spending 15 mins taking them off.

Quoted from another forum...

Quote:
Went to an auto body and he knew what it was immediately. One quote was 600$, one was 1500$. I immediately called up the dealer who sold me it, and I got a meeting with their brass at 6pm. I told them frankly: when I purchased the car, I purchased it under the assumption that the car was valued at a decent value and that what I recieved was a quality item. It turns out that no one did an inspection, hence my trunk didn't close, my heater didnt work, and my battery had died. No one asked the previous owner why the hood was on there, may it be for a personal preference or may it be for fixing it. The carfax is clean, and in PA, the police do not have to report any incidents. I was led to believe the car itself was "clean", but the quality of the paint has led me to now believe that I could not trust this, and was inherently misled by the dealer who did not pursue proper inspection objectives. Regardless if it was "modified" or "fixed", the value was changed and I was not properly informed of that value. The consumer has every right to know, and I feel like them covering up their poor used car habits doesn't help. I'm getting a phone call tomorrow from the GM of the dealership, and hopefully a resolution- fixing the bloody thing- will be arrived at. If not, i'm not sure what i'm going to do.

Oh damn, that sucks man that you are finding out this way. Dealerships can be sneaky, but on the otherhand, they may not have known. Carfax is worthless since mine is clean for both my cars and they both have been an accidents. I found it odd when you originally mentioned the badges, but now it makes sense. Good luck man, hope it all works out.

Yea, the only way I would have known is the badges b/c it was oversprayed. If I sold the car and said it wasn't painted there i'm ripping someone off; if it was repainted in that fashion (as it was), then i'm losing $$ myself.

when my car was resprayed at maaco, they didn't bother to take of the dealerships decal on the trunk, they just painted over it, so on the right angle you can see the name in the paint

Well...heres what happened.

Went to the dealership. The guy was really, really nice. Said he was going to talk to the GM..and have the GM call.

The GM had his secretary call me to say nothing was going to happen. Regardless of a possible collision, the fact that I bought a car presuming it was a quality piece of machinery (and it's been cheated of that, obviously), they didn't care. So we contacted the owner.

Right now I have a meeting with the owner to discuss things. At the very least it will be checked out and some sort of "gesture" (their words) will be given. Hopefully that gesture is 600$ to fix the fenders. I'm somewhat over the actual physical ailment; it's only noticable up close; however, this is principle. If you purchase a car, you are entitled to know what you purchase. If you are not availed that info, I feel you should be able to seek the correct paths to compromise. For me, thats fixing the paint.
